jcool Posted February 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2017 I am thinking about taking a cruise the same week of Thanksgiving. But I am a older person. I would like to know if that week is going to be full of kids.
sanmarcosman Posted February 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2017 Some families prefer to cruise during Thanksgiving. Most federal holidays when kids are out of school will result in higher numbers of school age children on board with you.
balcony bound Posted February 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2017 We have cruised Thanksgiving week a couple of times and we thought there was a much higher percentage of kids than other times we've cruised. That said, we don't cruise summer months so can't compare there.
cb at sea Posted February 11, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2017 As long as they aren't YOUR kids, you can safely ignore them! Most kids will be kept quite busy in the kid's clubs....the only other place you will see them is the pool....but there are always "out of the way" spots where you can catch some rays, if you're into that. dbenlee Posted February 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2017 We have cruised at this time of year on several different cruise lines. Yes, there are more children on the cruise than you would see during the school year, but not as many as we have seen during the summer.

BallFour4 Posted February 11, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 11, 2017 Your absolutely correct, about 1200 kids, pushing elevator buttons and lining up at the ice cream and pizza venues. We sailed every Thanksgiving from Galveston when our daughter was in school and my wife was teaching. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Shantabulous Posted February 11, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 11, 2017 This Thanksgiving I'll be taking my two littles on their first cruise (6 and 8) because they have the week off and we have lots of cousins going. I imagine there will be tons of kids...Last year on the Breeze I went sans kids the week after Thanksgiving, there were a bunch then too. We sailed every Thanksgiving from Galveston when our daughter was in school and my wife was teaching. The other problem cruising during school holidays with lots of kids is that pre-teens and teens can sign themselves out of the Camp and wander around the ship in groups acting silly and loud as those ages are wont to do. There are also those parents who think that if their kids are on the ship everything is OK and as a result don't mind turning them loose with late curfews. It's more obvious the more kids there are onboard.
Micahs Grandad Posted February 12, 2017 #10 Share Posted February 12, 2017 Kids would not bother me but lots of extra people on the ship means longer lines for everything
coevan Posted February 12, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 12, 2017 Thanks everyone for your help. Do yourself a favor and book the first week of December. We love traveling the first few weeks of January, cruise or not.

I guess they don't realize that parenting is a 24/7 job 365 days for 18+ years and just because THEY are on vacation, they should not let this responsibility be sidetracked because they wish to imbibe with their beverage of choice. SadieN Posted February 12, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 12, 2017 To avoid kids sail when traditional schools are in session. Hardly any kids after Thanksgiving to just before Winter Break.
jcool Posted February 12, 2017 Author #15 Share Posted February 12, 2017 Does parenting ever stop. I have a 28,29 when they do something that think it is not good I say why did you do that. And they do not live with me they have there only place.
Shaded Lady Posted February 12, 2017 #16 Share Posted February 12, 2017 Similar question as the OP's, different timeframe... we're cruising Sept 17- I'm assuming that most schools will be back in session so the number of little ones will be fewer. And given that school will have just started not as many parents will be willing to take their kids out of school for a week. Correct assumption or am I missing something? This won't make a difference for our cruise, I love being around the excitement of kids 'stretching' their boundaries and learning new things, I was more curious than anything. SNJCruisers Posted February 12, 2017 #17 Share Posted February 12, 2017 There will be some school age kids in September just like we had them in January right after the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. This isn't the 60's and 70's when parents never took kids out of school for a week to go on vacation. Vacation was either during the summer or maybe over Christmas. LadyBeBop Posted February 13, 2017 #18 Share Posted February 13, 2017 You'll also get some homeschooling kids. Since they aren't tied to a specific schedule, they and their families will go during off times.
