For Royal Princess, nobody has yet mentioned the fantastic themed based food offerings in the Horizon Court (HC) - lunch and dinner. You will find these mostly in the aft area of the HC - There are two serving areas. We had really great oriental food the first day at lunch, and we wouldn't pass on Bavarian night. In the next area forward there is usually somewhat decent Mexican offerings for lunch/afternoon snack., and there are cookies also in the dessert area, just a little further toward midship (get them before 11 PM, or you will need to go to the International Café, Deck 5.

If they are still offering it, try the Fish and Chips in the English Pub (uses the Crown Grill venue) on sea days.

We also recommend Alfredos.

The great thing is all these are included in your cruise price - no extra charge.

FL cruisers taking our first Princess Cruise aboard the Island Princess cruising Alaska in late May. We will going to Fairbanks and doing the EB4 Tour first before we take the train and board in Whittier/Vancouver. Any input on this itinerar or land tour would be greatly appreciated. What to take, what to do, weather, ship details etc.
Be sure to check out the Alaska board here on Cruise Critic for tips about each place you'll visit. Don't do the Natural History Tour included with your cruise tour. Ask whoever you booked with about upgrading to the Tundra Wilderness Tour or about taking one of the shuttles. At the Mt. McKinley Wilderness Lodge, you can ask for a wake-up call if the mountain becomes visible. It never was while we were there.

Be sure to pack some gloves and a warm hat for glacier viewing on the ship. I've been amazed at the number of folks who did not bring warm clothes on their Alaskan cruises. Layers are the key to not having to pack bulky winter coats that you'll only wear near the glaciers.

Watch for the mini fruit Pavlova's in the International Café and their strawberry meringues. They sometimes serve them in the "Dessert Room" in the spectacular Horizon Court Buffet. You can also use your coffee card in that room for specialty coffees to go with your dessert. Also check out the gelato sundaes in the Gelato Shop by the chocolate shop and Vines on deck 5. You can get a big sundae with only one punch on your coffee card. There is a fluffernutter sundae that is to die for - I've taste tested it many times.

Am I understanding correctly that you can use a coffee card punch for a gelato sundae???

What to take, what to do, weather, ship details etc. Booked on 9th Floor Dolphin in a Mini Suite. We have cruised many times but mostly on RCL and in the Caribbean.

Thanks in Advance for any info.

I suggest you copy this and start a new thread entitled First Princess Cruisetour - Island Princess in May. Then you'll get lots of specific responses. Have fun - Alaska is wonderful!

Sailing on Royal Princess in just about 5 weeks. It will be our first cruise with Princess.

What other cruise lines have you sailed? That will give us a little more perspective as to what you have probably experienced and then we can compare and contrast.
