Mddad1210 Posted February 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2017 We booked a last minute cruise stopping in cozumel and we're planning on just taking a taxi to paradise beach with our boys...are there shuttle type vans or busses as taxis, or all cars? We would feel safer in a van or a bus since we won't have car seats. Appreciate any other thoughts. Thanks

c-leg5 Posted February 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2017 There are vans but you will have to pay a little more. Enjoy! If you are taking the next taxi in line from dispatch shouldn't pay more for a van, unless you are a party of 5 or more. If you flag one down on the road, and ask, they may want more. If there are just the two of us we just say we will wait for a car.
Rare B4May Posted March 2, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2017 Related question: has anyone ever booked playa mia directly and taken their transportation? What is it like? We went to Playa Mia last February and booked directly with them, instead of through the cruise line. We had to walk through Cozumel from the pier to an office to get our paperwork - took us around a 10 minutes. After getting our bracelets and whatnot, they picked us up from there in a minivan. We had two small kids as well, 7 and 2. It was a bit of a scary ride without car seats but we made it! When we were ready to go, same deal - a minivan came and took us back to the pier. It was a great day - my kids loved the beach, the waterpark and especially the paddleboats!
JohninDC Posted March 2, 2017 #6 Share Posted March 2, 2017 There are some good, portable travel car seats available: https://www.amazon.com/mifold-Grab-Booster-Seat-Slate/dp/B01H5VJJTE/ref=sr_1_3_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1488485518&sr=1-3&keywords=portable+car+seats https://www.amazon.com/BubbleBum-Inflatable-Booster-Black-Silver/dp/B00AQYZCXK/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1488485518&sr=1-1&keywords=portable+car+seats It may or may not violate the local laws on Cozumel but the laws of physics apply everywhere -- your kids will be MUCH safer with a car seat. Rare crewsweeper Posted March 2, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2017 All taxis are zoned fares. The step up in price per taxi is based on the number of passengers. 1-4, 5, 6-8, not vehicle. There's usually a dispatcher, taxi captain at the piers directing taxis and helping cruisers to the right one. Just tell him you want a van taxi. The laws of physics quote is always a favorite of mine...we travel with the bubblebum because that's what was available a few years ago and I am happy to recommend it to others. We keep it on a string backpack whenever we are away from home (NYC, Boston, Florida, Cruising etc). The mi-fold is new - and while it might not be as comfortable as the bubble bum - it looks like it would be a great choice for beach trips!! Lumee23 Posted March 8, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 8, 2017 We will be in Cozumel in December this year and I am concerned about the car seat issue as well. My youngest will be three (she is currently 2.5 yrs) and is very small for her age. She is currently only 22lbs. We still have a little while but the recommended seats are for ages 4 and up and 40lbs and up. Anybody know of a travel car seat product for younger kids? Cel_cruise Posted March 9, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 9, 2017 The RideSafer Travel Vest is a good alternative for the 3yo / 30lb child, but it's pricy at $159....might see if anyone you know has one you can borrow?
