PVSA question

My friend is thinking about booking the cruise from San Diego to Vancouver, but needs to be home the day the ship docks in Vancouver and is wondering if he can disembark in Nanaimo or Victoria since they are both a "nearby port" and not a US port. I think that this should be possible, but a travel agent didn't think that it was. Have anyone ever done this before? Thanks in advance for any advice that you might have for me.

You'll have to arrange with Celebrity well in advance of the cruise They might say yes but the Canadian Authorities might not have the manpower to do that. Naniomo would be a better port . There is no customs involved at the port.

We did exactly this a couple of years ago (but not on celebrity). I notified them during the cruise and it was smoother than regular disembarkation. We did have to take our luggage off ourselves but showed our passports and we were cleared. The ship was docked until 11 pm and we disembarked around 7 pm. Stayed at a local hotel and caught the first flight from Victoria to Seattle and then San Diego. But you should check as advised.

Thanks, that's good to know that it has been done, even if not on Celebrity.

We have seen many people disembarking with their luggage at Victoria on Celebrity cruises.

Don't think your friend will have any problem at all.

But do play it safe and get permission in advance, just for peace of mind.

P.S. It would probably be a good idea for your friend to find a different travel agent. ;)

This is what I've seen as well. There were a couple of hundred pax disembarking in Victoria on my last RCCL cruise. Just arrange with the cruise line.... sure looks as though this shouldn't be a problem.

You have to contact Celebrity and complete a downline disembarkation form. Celebrity now charges a fee of about $65USD if you are joining late or getting off early. They will explain before they send you the form. If you have a TA they have to request it.

That fee is what the Canadian government charges for this service.

They normally don't have agents to process people with luggage at the port They brings from a international port of entry. The closet is the Victoria Airport and the ferry terminal at Sydney BC.

The PVSA only applies to sailings that both begin and end in the U.S.

Actually applies to passengers who start and end their journey in the USA no matter how many continuous sailings on the same ship are involved.

One could board a ship in Alaska, stay on the ship all summer and want to disembark when the ship relocates to Los Angeles at the end of summer. Would not be allowed.

It's probably possible, I know last year a whole bunch of passengers who were on a B2B disembarked at Victoria because they had to. I think the numbers were around 40.
