Everything.. Norwegian BLISS! - launch April 2018 -

Recommended Posts

I wonder if smoking it off ship days before eating is the reason its not tasting good? From a miamiherald article ......

The meats are smoked off the ship, for example, Stuart said.

"It's been such a pain to develop, honestly, because it's really difficult," he said. "You can't smoke on the ship. So we had to work with the purveyor of meats that we work with to do part of the process off the ship and part on the ship."

Floridian, that may be the core of the explanation. We ate there towards the end of the Transatlantic trip. Presumably the food had been prepared weeks earlier before being shipped to Europe.. We’ve eaten at smokehouses in several US States (not Texas) and hadn’t experienced such odd flavourings previously...

I was thinking Q would be on my list to try. Maybe not. What was the bad at Q?

We´ve been 5 people and you can check my photos here. It wasn´t bad but a little bit disappointing. I have to say that I switched ships that week and was on the Carnival Horizon prior to the Norwegian Bliss. The Pig & Anchor Smokehouse by Guy Fieri is priced more decently and food tasted better.

Thanks for all the reply's about Q. Knowing this is prepared off ship days ahead of time I will avoid. Not even close to Texas Barbecue...

I just posted on my page our assessment. It is no where near the best bbq we have had, but there are some worthwhile things to try!!

I know what you mean. I love barbecue and was excited to see Q coming to the Bliss. Not anymore. I do a lot of smoking, grilling and BBQ here at the house. Quite frankly there is no way this could compare to meat taken from the smoker and plated immediately.

I will still go there but most likely won't order any meat.

From the looks of it, Cigarette smokers pack into it. Also

The smokers are not happy how the casino is set up for

Them. The smoking area of the casino is a glass

Enclosed space, that doesn’t have a bar. So the bar

In the casino is smoke free. Heard lots of complaints

From smokers about no being able to use the bar.

They can order drinks from waiters. It was wonderful in the casino and common areas without smoke.

Regarding balconies in the Haven on 17 vs 18. We were in the H4 two bedroom. We were on 18. The balcony is usually half the width of the cabin in an H4 because your shower and tub go all the way to the edge of the ship. That is what we had in 18116. However, downstairs from us, which I assume was also an H4, the balcony ran the entire width of the cabin. I think that means the floor to ceiling windows in the bathroom look out on the balcony instead of directly down on the ocean. That will be a little weird if people on your balcony can see into your tub and shower. We will find out in a month because we are back on the Bliss in an H4 on 17. But yes, the balconies were very big below us.

The flavour/taste of the food... Maybe Texas barbecue is a peculiar acquired taste; to us it tasted as if the meat had been cooked in paraffin to such an extent that it was impossible to tell what meat was which by taste, we hardly ate anything... The banana dessert was good but huge, way too large for one person...

If you think you’re going to get anything like baby back ribs (as we did) you’re in for an unwelcome surprise...

We actually liked the pork spareribs and they were close to what we eat in Texas. We ordered with a loaded baked potato because we didn’t care for the beans, potato salad or slaw. The problem with BBQ is that every section of the country has a different idea of what BBQ should taste like. Also we ordered peach cobbler and it was nothing like peach cobbler. Second time we ordered banana pudding and it was excellent.

Thanks for this rational perspective. Your dining experience is very much subjective based on both your tastes as well as your expectations. No, this was not like the best BBQ in Texas, but our experience was that we had a very enjoyable meal. Some items we enjoyed better than others, just like when we dine in a new restaurant on dry land.

Overall we had mixed experiences dining on the Bliss. We were not thrilled with the new menus in Ocean Blue or La Cucina, although what we ate in both restaurants was well prepared, served and delicious, we struggled to choose something that seemed appealing on the menu. We did not enjoy Los Lobos, again because it was not appealing (spices or ingredients we don't care for) although well prepared. Friends had the opposite reaction and ate there 3 times. The Local was a pleasant surprise and where we unexpectedly had the best prime rib dinner - complimentary. Overall we found the quality of the food and preparation was better in nearly every restaurant, but whether it is a "good" restaurant or "worth the money" will be very much a matter of personal taste and preference. It is worthwhile to review menus before making reservations for specialty restaurants, set reasonable expectations.

We prebooked all our dining on the bliss.

Unfortunately the night we went to Q was the one night there was no live music. We felt there was no atmosphere in the restaurant without the music, it felt a bit like a cheap diner.

I had brisket and it was tough, other half had beef short ribs which weren’t the best.

When you compare it to the Bistro or Cagneys there’s no comparison.

We didn’t feel it was worthy of the speciality dining fee.

Ocean blue was ok, we expected more for the extra up-charge.

The scallop entree was so small, smallest scallops I’ve ever seen.

LosLobos was good, guacamole made table side is amazing.

We had pork tacos which were really good.

La cucina new menu is a vast improvement, osso bucco was amazing.

The only restaurant that was ever busy was Cagneys, all the others were always empty.

We ate a couple of times in the main dining rooms and never had a bad meal.

At the end of the day food is very subjective and this is just my opinion.

Went Q every night for the AWESOME country band! Ate there one night, had the salmon and loved it. Waaaaaay too much food. Spiral fries were fab, mac n cheese very good. Had the brownie for dessert. Was ok, little dry tbh. But needed a place to die after eating so much lol.

Stayed for the band again and struggled too dance, after dancing and singing every night. They are so worth checking out!

Hello all. I have gone through hours of posts, which honestly felt like days, and have not come across this question so I thought I’d ask. There was a ship tour video posted a couple days ago and in it the poster had mentioned that “guests in the Haven restaurant can order off ANY menu on the boat including Cagney’s, Ocean Blue etc. at no charge”. Is there any truth to this? Has anyone experienced this? Thank you in advance.

Yes, ask your Valet to handle it, they are there for just that kind of help.

The charges are subject to your amenities, Cagneys and others will be part of your dinning package. Also if you are platinum or above you have additional free dinner vouchers

How was Camille Rae??

Did they serve dinner while they were playing?

What was the best meat, thinking going for the mixed platter, for a taste of it all

Which they do not allow on the Bliss. Everything chargeable must be left unplugged when you leave the room and staff will unplug if you don’t.

I left many things out in the open charging all day and night. Nothing was ever unplugged. BUT, the key card light system may have turned off the power when I left the room. I never thought to check.

If you like that type of music she’s probably pretty good, and had a large support band... If it’s not your thing it’s just mega loud... Yes they do serve food when the band is playing, so much so that communicating with the servers other than by sign language is impossible... As for the meat, I won’t be able to help you which is the best, the most constructive I could say is that the chicken was probably the least worst...

The band and Camille were excellent! They only served dinner into the first set. They did about 30-45 then a break and so on.

As for the meat, I only eat fish, so can only comment on the Salmon (which I really enjoyed). My party had the brisket and pulled pork and really liked it.
