plunker Posted March 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2017 Just wandering around looking at cruises and found a cruise leaving from Ft Lauderdale to Southampton England. Its a 14 day cruise for 549 for a inside. I had to do a double take. Ports are Bermuda, Cork Ireland, Cornwall England, Paris, and end up in Southampton. Is it because there are 9 sea days or weather concerns? Cruise is April 6 on Caribbean Princess. What am I missing? Sounds too good to be true. Sillyjilly Posted March 22, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2017 Transatlantics are great deals. Go for it. It's the flight that sometimes kills the deal.

I believe that the Spring TA pricing is usually better than the Fall TA pricing but both should still be a very good price. Like you said, the flights can be the part that costs too much. racj846 Posted March 23, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2017 You are not missing anything. They want to fill empty cabins. Empty cabins on the ship do not produce revenue
NavyVeteran Posted March 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2017 They have to reposition the ship from winter cruising in the Caribbean to summer cruising in Europe whether or not anyone wants to sail then, and they would rather sail with a full ship. Even if they don't make money on the cruise fare, the extra gratuities help pay the crew and they make money from the bars, the shops, and the casino. I prefer the fall westbound trans-Atlantic cruises to the spring eastbound ones for the following reasons: I prefer European pre-cruise days and European port days at the beginning of the cruise and relaxing sea days at the end so I get home relaxed. I prefer a long flight at the beginning (when I'm excited to be going on a cruise) and a short flight at the end (when I'm ready to get home). I prefer 25-hour days with an extra hour's sleep to 23-hour days where you lose an hour nearly every day. Spring trans-Atlantic cruises would be lower price than fall ones if enough people feel this way. You didn't say whether all the categories were at great prices or just insides. There may not be a lot of people who want to sail a cruise that long with that many sea days in an inside cabin. On a port-intensive cruise, it may not make as much difference. Look at the air prices on Princess EZAir. For one-way flights from Europe to the United States, their prices are probably better than you will find elsewhere - and you can change or cancel them until 45 days prior to the sailing or flight (whichever is first). jdeanski Posted March 23, 2017 #6 Share Posted March 23, 2017 It's really $900 when you add in taxes and gratuities. Everything is sold out except for interiors. It's still a deal airfare may add about $500.
easyboy Posted March 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2017 TA cruises are usually cheaper on a per night rate.

With just two weeks to go to the start of the cruise and just four weeks until a flight back to the USA would be needed, even EZAir may not have good pricing on what flights are still available,

jdeanski Posted March 23, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I see oceanview and full suites also still available. Interesting. Yesterday when I looked it said they were sold out. The April 8 TA I'm booked on said it was totally sold out but today interiors, OV and balconies are available...

Availability in different categories changes as they assign guarantees and process upsells.
LeeW Posted March 23, 2017 #12 Share Posted March 23, 2017 If you don't want to fly back you might look at Cunard for a TA back. Rates can also be low, although they do like to dress up every evening.

A great group going though. We have over 100 in our Meet and Greet list Looks like lots of experienced TA cruisers too.

Cunard doesn't have one going back to New York till the 8th of may :loudcry: But what a great Idea
