What activities are there on the Norwegian Gem for 20ish college students?

Hello. Family of 10 going on a May voyage out of NY for 7 days to Port Canaveral and Nassau on the Gem.

8 of the 10 are college age kids to low twenties. They have asked me what is there to do on the ship that would appeal to them. As a mom in her 50's, my opinion is not always the right one.

Can anyone elaborate for me? What events, activities, things-to-do are there on the ship that would appeal to them. They are all over 21... and NOT on the drink package, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for your suggestions.

The parties well probably be a hit with most of them but aside from that, there is the basketball court, shuffelboard, climbing wall to take up some of their time. I have also seen get togethers for their age range on some of my dailies. Of course the pool and hot tubs.

They will probably enjoy the comedy show as well.

You might see if you can find a recent GEM daily and see what types of things they are offering. Since you know them, you might see something that interest them and can pass it along

Good luck and have fun

I just got off last week and we had 21 people in our group with 10 of them between 21 and 27. There was a lot of family time and then the young ones spent a lot of time together. There was a lot of drinking and they are all responsible, it is what they do. Honestly though the Gem is not really the best ship for twenty somethings if they do not drink. The activities are limited and the evening shows are not that big of a draw for the young ones. We have been on the Gem 5 times and the Breakaway 4 times in the last 4 years and it is like night and day for young people. The Breakaway wins hands down for them. If family time is important to them like it was for us though then you will have a great time.

Thanks for the jokes. We know they are all adults. We know they will be drinking. On their dime. Other than drinking... ideas, please?

Best to get the UBP for them and save money.

The Gem caters to Mom and Mom+ aged passengers. Not so much the 20ish party cruise. More of the music of the 70's and 80's lounge music.

The Breakaway doing that same itinerary would have had more to do.

We did not want to promote the all inclusive drinking. If they want to drink, it is on their dime. We gave them the choice -- and they are choosing NOT to invest $92 a day (drink package plus 18% gratuities) themselves for it.

Our goal was to provide them a 100% paid - they owe nothing - cruise experience so we paid for their passage and service tips for our kids and their dates.

Since 3 of them are "girlfriends/boyfriend" we did not want to promote the drinking binge increased probability that comes with an unlimited drink package.

Our choice. Our conscience.

We are cruising with our 2 20-something kids in May on another Gem-class ship, the Pearl. Neither of them are big drinkers and have not purchased the UBP. My DD would happily spend the whole cruise reading. lol My DS will probably spend more time than I would like in the casino. But they are mostly interested in the cruise experience, excursions (some we are doing together, some indepedently), and family time as DH's brother and SIL are on the same cruise. Plus, Alaska is so scenic that we all plan to spend lots of time just watching the gorgeousness. And DH and I are treating everyone to Moderno, as all except the in-laws have tried Brazilian steakhouse before and like it very much.

Agree the entertainment on the Gem is not as stimulating for that age group as say the Breakaway would be. However, I would encourage them to attend the the non-headliner entertainment that the ship lists such as Newlywed, Quest, even Trivia, etc. These are usually a lot of laughs and appeal to a wide age range. The dance parties will also be fun for them!
