mollybloomers Posted April 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2017 I am cruising on the Breakaway out of NYC in June. With the new boarding procedures, is there a point to getting to the port early? Ideally I would LOVE to get a Vibe pass. Obviously, Haven, Platinum, etc will have their chance at it first. So, I guess my question, should I show up early hoping to get on early enough or not even waste my time and sleep in that day?
Two Wheels Only Posted April 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2017 You can either try and possibly fail or not try and definitely fail.
Bellyflopchamp Posted April 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2017 IN some of the reviews recently there has been some success getting vibe passes if you show up early enough. you'd still need to rush to where they are selling them once you board, but if you get there too late at least you would not waste too much time. You'll just see that they are all sold out and move along, move along.
mollybloomers Posted April 6, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted April 6, 2017 Since Haven, Platinum, etc. board first, does anyone know when all of us plebes start boarding?
Rare BirdTravels Posted April 6, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2017 Since Haven, Platinum, etc. board first, does anyone know when all of us plebes start boarding? 11:30. Havens and Casino have always boarded first in NY. Now Ambassador, Platinum Plus, and Platinum will board next,,,, before general boarding. All 4200 passengers don't show up for first boarding. In fact, the majority of the 4200 passengers do not show up for first boarding.
mollybloomers Posted April 6, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted April 6, 2017 We have gotten the Vibe passes and they are nice but don't get overly worried if you miss. They are not all that much of a big deal. We have passed up on them each of the subsequent times we were on the relevant ships and we were on board in plenty of time to get them if we wanted them. Its one of those 'do it one time' things at best. Is there another quiet/non-kids spot you recommend on BA? I just want relaxation in the sun :)

I just want relaxation in the sun :) Spice H2O is adult-only during the day with no extra charge. The upper sundecks above the pool are usually without children. garebarepups Posted April 6, 2017 #8 Share Posted April 6, 2017 What are the new boarding procedures. We were on the Breakaway Nov. 2016, what has changed. We won't be on again until June 2018, so just wondering.
caddykid12 Posted April 6, 2017 #9 Share Posted April 6, 2017 Handicap accessible also board with haven and casino. Not saying they book vibe but. ... takes extra time
Rare uneamie Posted April 6, 2017 #10 Share Posted April 6, 2017 So let's be clear here......if you are only a regular passenger...no suites of any kind, what time is boarding? That said...I always thought the haven passengers had their own unique and lovely quiet spot. I could be wrong. Anyway, I don't understand why they don't just let all the suites and haven people book their vibe passes on line. They could also show how many passes are left via the Iconcierge app and that way you don't have to rush there if there are non left.

The Haven passengers really don't opt for a Vibe pass as they have their own private sundeck on the other side of the ship.

KCinCT Posted April 9, 2017 #13 Share Posted April 9, 2017 We just got off the breakaway this morning. We got to the pier around 10 am and were on the ship by 11:30. As our boarding group was called around 11:15 (group 10). There were several long lines to get your ship cards and to set up your account. If you do not like waiting in lines I suggest to get there early. This was our first cruise and we will be going again. We took the Metro North in from New Haven and arrived at Grand central at 8:50. We deducted to walk to the cruise terminal. Just over a mile but is was worth it as we walked through Times Square and got to see a lot of cool things on the walk. We took a taxi back on Sunday and it was $25. I will be putting a review up in the next few days. We really had a blast and hope you all do as well. KCinCT Posted April 10, 2017 #15 Share Posted April 10, 2017 To us it was very easy. We walked from Grand Central to the terminal and we did it in less than a hour. We also stopped and took some pictures and picked up a water at a convenience store. The sidewalks were not crowded at the time so we were not fighting to make progress. This is a true statement just got off Sunday on the Breakaway we were in a haven spa room . I did not speak to every haven member but anyone I did speak to did not do vibe
jcee1220 Posted December 15, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 15, 2017 Sailing out of NYC on 12/22. Does the line wait outside? Why was there a choice to select a boarding time? I selected 9:30. If they don't start until 11 or so, what's the point? Sounds like I shouldn't rush over there to stand in the cold.

They don’t care what boarding time you have, we get there early to go through lines faster and get a seat. We like to be on the ship by noon to have lunch. I'm sure Haven guest will not try to get Vibe passes, yes getting there early may increase your changes to get a lower number and to board early. Good luck to you and happy cruising Marion
sverigecruiser Posted December 15, 2017 #22 Share Posted December 15, 2017 We will defenitely get VIBE passes again if we ever cruise on the Breakaway again. The Haven is very nice but VIBE is adults only, it has an outdoor bar and the hot tubs are better there than in the Haven.
Mike C Posted December 15, 2017 #23 Share Posted December 15, 2017 I believe around 9 or 9:30. Last year they did not start letting people through security until 10 AM. There are some places to sit prior to the security check point if you get there early.

You chose an arrival / check in time at the terminal of 9:30.... completely different than boarding...... NCL is not enforcing as of yet but some cruise lines / ports are using the staggered arrival / check in to ease the passenger crowds etc. These cruise lines / ports..... if you arrive prior to your selected time then you are asked to wait before entering the terminal. Vyhanek Posted December 15, 2017 #25 Share Posted December 15, 2017 I don't know why people get to the terminal to sit and wait with a couple thousand other people. Like the OP said, if you aren't going to scramble for a Vibe pass why would you do that? Go later. Much later so the mass of people get onboard. You get there around 1pm and you will literally walk right on. No sitting and waiting, no boarding groups. Go have lunch at 1pm in the dining room, avoid the massive crowds in the buffet. It will be a much more pleasant experience.
