Rare CanadianBurger Posted April 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2017 Hello CCers! Welcome to another of my photo-rich LIVE From instalments. It's still a few days till we cruise, but I thought I'd start with our trip and adventures in Rome before we board. I'll be concentrating on pics aboard the ship so people can see what she's like, rather than the ports. This is our first Med cruise, and we're super excited. Although some of the changes aboard the Majestic aren't to our liking (RIP Crooners!) I'm sure we'll still have a great time. Stay tuned! Rare CanadianBurger Posted April 6, 2017 Author #2 Share Posted April 6, 2017 We're at Pearson International Airport in Toronto awaiting our Air Canada flight to Munich, where we connect to Rome on Lufthansa. Enjoying our time in the international Maple Leaf Lounge. The food offerings included two pastas, two soups, salads, and other assorted goodies. And the self-serve bar: Sent from my iPhone using Forums

luv2gonow Posted April 7, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2017 Thanks for posting. I will be joining you on 4/9 sailing I can't wait! We are leaving tmrw. I have been monitoring all threads and it seems like we will have a fabulous cruise. As of now even the weather looks good! This will be my 1st Princess cruise so I'm wondering if I will feel like something is missing. Curious to see if i notice less bars. I have beverage package included so I will find them all;-) 2 years ago we sailed the Med on Ncl epic and it was amazing . For this trip there is only one repeat port which is florence. We spent some time on land in Florence so we will be going to Lucca. I was humming and hawing about cinque terre so long it is waitlisted now. Did your plan your excursions? Rare CanadianBurger Posted April 7, 2017 Author #13 Share Posted April 7, 2017 Canadianburger,is the senator lounge for first class passengers or do they allow business class passengers?long cruiser The Senator Lounge is for Star Alliance Gold. (Or whatever is higher in LH's FF program) There are separate Lufthansa Business Class lounges if you're in business but have a lower FF status, and a separate First Class lounge. Rare CanadianBurger Posted April 7, 2017 Author #14 Share Posted April 7, 2017 We're staying at the Boscolo Exedra Roma. What a gorgeous hotel. This is the view from our room, overlooking the Piazza della Repubblica. It's an Autograph Collection property, which is a Marriott brand, so I was able to use my points and status. The manager had a nice little surprise waiting for us: Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare CanadianBurger Posted April 7, 2017 Author #16 Share Posted April 7, 2017 We booked the Welcome to Rome tour with "Walks of Italy" for this afternoon. Our guide was fantastic. She had a Ph.D. in archeology, and was very knowledgeable about the sites. Everyone gets a radio with an earphone (you can use your own headphones if you prefer) which was great as you could always hear what the guide was saying even if you were lagging behind a bit. Here were some of the highlights: Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi in Piazza Navona (this was the fountain in Angels and Demons where Tom Hanks rescued the Cardinal) The Pantheon, exterior and interior: Trevi Fountain: The Spanish Steps and Fontana della Barcaccia Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare CanadianBurger Posted April 7, 2017 Author #17 Share Posted April 7, 2017 For dinner we wanted something quick and inexpensive. We found a place on Trip Advisor two blocks from our hotel called "eBar" that fit the bill perfectly. We emailed them, and they confirmed a reservation. They also speak English. There are only four tables inside, with another few outside. It's a family-run place, and everything is handmade from scratch. I had cannelloni with a beef filling, and it was so good, I also followed it up with lasagna. They made my wife a special tomato sauce with no onions or garlic due to her food allergies, with fresh egg noodles. It was also excellent. The entrees were only €9, which is a great deal. And Limoncello shots included at the end! Sorry, I only got a pic of the lasagna. Tomorrow we're going on tours with Walks of Italy again to the Vatican and the Colosseum. Rare CanadianBurger Posted April 9, 2017 Author #24 Share Posted April 9, 2017 This morning we visited the Vatican. The art is truly stunning and must be seen in person to fully appreciate. Rare CanadianBurger Posted April 9, 2017 Author #25 Share Posted April 9, 2017 In the afternoon it was The Colosseum, Palatine Hill & Roman Forum The customer service at Walks of Italy was great (if sometimes a little slow to respond to email). We had a different tour booked in the afternoon, but scheduling from the authorities at the Colosseum forced its cancellation. Walks of Italy got us booked on an earlier tour, and provided a car service to get us from the Vatican to the Colosseum to make the tour. Below the arena floor From the top level Imperial Palaces on Palatine Hill Roman Forum A day and a half in Rome is not nearly enough time, but it was a fantastic precursor to our cruise. In the morning we'll be heading to Civitavecchia to board the Majestic. Stay tuned! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
