Letter I sent Carnival over Adult Only Pools

First I just signed the petition.

Now, Carnival may allow children to use the back pool, but we can do everything we can think of by making kids and their parents feel uncomfortable being in the back pool.

1. Must of us wade along the side of the pool with our beverages next to us. So if we take up most of the area around the side of the pool kids maybe too intimidated about trying to enter the pool.

2. Sense we consider the pool to be an adult pool use colorful language. Parents with young children will not want their kids to be hearing all those four little words and sexual discussions.

3. Ladies, where bikini tops that are two sizes too small and thong bottoms or other tight bikini bottoms.

4. Couples this is now the area of the ship to show personal display of affection. Parents are very uncomfortable for their kids to witness this type of activity.

I know in today's world must parents don't care what their kids do or see. But if we can make the area as uncomfortable as we can, families may not want to hang around the back pool.

I, as an adult, certainly do not want to see nor hear any of these. People complain about kids but you would rather do this????

In theory, yes. Too bad that Carnival will not enforce it.

I was just on the Conquest April 1 - 9 sailing, where the new pool/hot tub policy change had already taken place.

Signage said that kids "accompanied by an adult" would be permitted in the aft hot tubs and pools. Staff did nothing when kids on their own cannonballed into the pool or wore their snorkels into the hot tubs. They were even quiet about 2 parents immersing their diapered toddlers in the pool.

It's going to be hard for staff to distinguish if a kid is with an adult, so this is basically another Carnival policy that stands little chance of being enforced.

No according to lady I spoke to at Carnival. She looked up my booking on Pride and said it was also in the change. I think it is fleet wide.

The Pride has a pool and hot tub in the Serenity area. Very nice layout. In addition you are taking a 14 day cruise. The whole ship will likely feel like adult only.

On our 14 day cruise there were maybe 30 kids and we only saw one or two the entire cruise.

Longer cruises are a different make up of passengers. We had a blast and I am sure you will too.

The Pride is a great ship! Enjoy your cruise.

Splendor is not adult only any more. Re-thinking my Hawaii cruise on her next year.

Oh my gosh...the Hawaii cruises are geriatric central with the average age being 70 or better and scooters outnumbering kids 10 to one. I think you are worrying about absolutely nothing....

I want to relax, maybe read a bit, snooze have a few cocktails. Just one area on the ship we can relax, have adult conversation.

You don't need to be IN the pool to do any of those things. I think much of the uproar about this is misrepresented as kids were ALWAYS allowed in the area of these pools, especially since thats where the ice cream, pizza, and sometimes burger/chicken finger area is. The kids are now simply allowed IN the pool.

I totally support the movement for them NOT to be in these pools and hot tubs, but a lot of these complaints I've been reading are listing activities that have nothing to do with things IN the pool. I apologize for pointing out the poster above, I was simply giving an example.

The pizza and ice cream on the Splendor are by the main pool, not the aft pool.

Why not just have a "sit in?" Get a bunch of adults together and get in the pool until there is no more room. Then when one person has to get out, he or she is replaced with another waiting adult. Keep it up until they get the point! I'm kidding (I will admit that a small part of me would think it was funny, but it's not practical).

I am so upset over this ! If I wouldn't lose my deposit I would cancel and book with Royal!!!! If you want to send complaint email here is address..... guestsolutionssupport@carnival dot com

Dear Carnival,

Today I called your customer service department to confirm there will be no more adult only pools. This is a very upsetting matter for our family. I have nothing against children as we have 3 adult sons. However when I book a cruise I want to have a pool that is for adults. I can tell you this will be my last cruise with Carnival unless this rule is changed. Royal has adult only area as does Disney, Celebrity and so many others. Cruisecritic message boards and others are in agreement with me on this matter.

What reasoning is for this change? You are only catering to only families with children. We are middle aged with grown children, so having to share a pool with kids is NOT fun for our demographic. How about young couples or just couples on a cruise? Sorry this change has been made but I guess if there is enough of us leaving Carnival then maybe you will reconsider.

Sincerely UPSET customer

This is posted in the NEWS section on this site-

"According to Carnival brand ambassador John Heald, the new designation applies to the Conquest-class ships -- Conquest, Glory, Valor, Liberty and Freedom -- as well as Splendor and Victory.

Several of the ships (including Freedom, Glory, Liberty, Splendor, Valor and Victory) where the changes occurred either have a Serenity adults-only area or are getting one soon (like Conquest, during a dry dock in October)."

Yes but Serenity on these ships do NOT have a pool. That is the issue.

Sorry honey, no chicken fingers or umbrella drinks for me. Plenty of quiet places for me to get away for some peace and quiet on the ship. When I need a break I will retreat to my spa balcony room, the serenity area or the adults only spa.

I agree with you.

Oh, I get it...sorry. We just came off of Pride, and the Serenity Deck has a pool and hot tub. I hope that doesn't change.

No problem. I think that some of the people that don't understand why so many are upset are thinking the same way.

If Serenity had a pool you wouldn't hear a peep from me and I'm guessing the other 99.99% of people who are in opposition to the announcement.

This whole thing is a bit upsetting. I have spent 31 of my 50 something years on this planet taking care of children. My own children and other people's children. I have spent all these years changing diapers, watching Sesame Street, being room mother for school, Girl Scout leader, den mother for cub scouts, costume maker for various school plays, spent many a sleepless night chaperoning loud sleepovers, sitting through endless Chucky Cheese birthday parties, chaperoned teen lock-ins, served on Booster Clubs, dished out endless dinners at youth fundraisers, peddled countless knick knacks and chocolate bars for organizations, took many years of cheap kid centered vacations so that the kids could have fun while still being able to afford their dance lessons, sport camps, team supplies etc. I have FINALLY reached the age where I could go on a trip WITHOUT the kids, and had booked a cruise for just my husband and I and I was so looking forward to being able to have just a tiny bit of peace wo screaming running children.

This was YOUR choice. You elected to have kids (and take care of others) No one forced you.

Did someone tell you that cruise ships are adults only? If so, you need to go back to them and let them know that they misinformed you.

Some of us have earned this. And I would think that many of the parents still in the middle of child rearing would also welcome a little time away and some peace and quiet.

You haven't earned anything.

We paid property tax to pay for your kids schooling, answered the front door during the middle of of our show to buy your kid's candy bars, got shook down coming out of the store to buy popcorn or cookies from your cub scouts and girls scout. We've slowed down for your school zones, put up with your parking lot traffic at the strip mall where Chucky Cheese is at when we were just stopping after work to get something from the grocery store real quick. We smelled your kids crappy diaper and heard them screaming in the aisles at the store while you shopped on. We've had them run underneath our feet while you were no where in sight.

However, we didn't cry about it because we realize it is part of life and we all share this planet with each other. And we understand that while we may be selfish jerks ourselves a lot of the time we still have to get along with others regardless of their age.

The kids have plenty of space on the ship and plenty of things catered just for their enjoyment, so why can't the adults have one tiny space on the ship we can call our own? Please????

You mean like the casino? comedy club? night club? bars? Those kids only spaces?

Maybe you should choose a different vacation.

Carnival is obviously trying to appeal to families. If the other lines mentioned offer adult only pools, Carnival must see an opportunity to have fully family friendly ships. I would imagine as many people who are pissed off with this there is likely the same amount that think it is a good idea. My advice, book on another line.....

But Carnival IS ALREADY family friendly. This doesn't change it or make it more so. Them adding Waterworks, Dr Suess, and those kinds of things are what matter to most kids and show that Carnival is looking to attract more families.

Some parents (and apparently Corporate) are the ones that think by doing this they will get more families. Not sure why. The big things like I previously mentioned are much more of a draw for kids than one tiny pool at the back of the ship. As it has already been said, a LOT of the parents also enjoy a pool where they can relax and be away from kids. So if they want them to bring families onboard, then they need to listen to the parents who will be bringing the kiddos with. There was something for everyone. Now, not so much.

Part of the reason we go on cruises is for the excellent day camp services and getting some time to ourselves, all while still enjoying time with the kids most of the day and at ports. I hate to see the adults only pool going away. I'm not convinced it'll be the big issue everyone thinks it is. But we'll see.

I think it's just a case of they never enforced the rule, so they removed it. I was on the Valor some years ago and have pictures of kids frolicking in the aft hot tub right next to the "adults only" sign. the entire cruise the rule was never enforced.

They weren't asking for an entire ship to be adults only. just an area. just the same as there are kid only areas. having one area for adults isn't asking for a lot. and during my last cruise, there were kids in Serenity, the comedy club (even after the "adults only time"), and kids runnin g through the casino. and they had kids allowed in the hot tubs with parents present-my husband & i were in one with several children (not ours) who were misbehaving & one kid decided to swim in the hot tub & before he could react, my husband got kicked in the face by the kid.

also, there are some adults who don't want to go to the bars or night clubs or comedy club or caino for any number of reasons (don't drink, don't dance or stay up late, don't like that brand of humor, or don't want to smell cigarette smoke/gamble).

Just from another perspective here... What I feel like Carnival is doing here is really making this the "family brand". Carnival has other brands people... they would love for everyone to cruise where they are most comfortable (within the Carnival parent company that is). Princess has wonderful adult only areas.

I get it, I understand why people are upset, but, I also understand what Carnival is doing here. If a certain % of Carnival passengers travel with kids and are complaining that the pool is too crowded, they are going to cater to that higher % group. They know that they can offer their other lines to people who don't want to be bothered with kids. My wife and I did princess for our honeymoon, loved it. It really wasn't that much more expensive.

Now, all Carnival needs to do to help people make the move to the better suited line is to open up the loyalty programs across lines so that you aren't penalized after being very high up with one line and wanting to switch. As long as they get your money, I don't know why they would care.

I have always enjoyed the "adult only" pools...have always thought there was more of a chance swimming in a pool that had a lot less "pee" in it....give the kids their pool and leave the adults alone...guess I won't be in a pool at all now! Thanks Carnival....
