Question about Elite+ discounts

I see that a couple of benefits of being Elite+ are 10% discount on a beverage package and 15% discount on speciality restaurants. Can anyone please advise whether the 10% beverage discount applies to upgrading a package - as we will already have the Classic package included - and whether the 15% dining discount applies to dining packages or just to individual speciality restaurant bookings?

The 10% discount on beverage packages only applies to the purchase of a package, not the upgrade. I have seen posts on CC from Elite + cruisers who have upgraded on board and gotten the discount, possibly a glitch in the system. We've always upgraded prior to sailing.

We've never bought a dining package so can't help with that.

I think the 15% dining discount is for individual bookings, not for the package. I do know that you can generally get more than a 15% discount when the restaurants are hawking them. On Eclipse I asked at Guest Services if the discounts were combinable and was told "No."

Thanks for the responses - seems with a drinks package and since we usually book dining packages those particular 'benefits' won't be worth anything to us

We upgraded on board from classic to elite. When we checked our bill, the upgrade price of $11.80 per day was discounted discounted by 10%. This is celebrity where the only thing consistent is inconsistency :)

Answer to your question is your upgrade may or may not be discounted...but you probably have a better chance of getting the discount if you do it on board.

Most elite plus members realize that these "benefits" are a joke as you can usually get deals onboard for the speciality restaurants that are much better than those offered pre-cruise. It may be worth it if you want to pre-book a specific day and time otherwise wait until you're onboard and negotiate.

Agree....we are ambivalent about eating in the specialty restaurants on any cruise although it's a nice change at a reasonable price. If we get a good price...great, if not, that's ok too. On most cruises, at some point they start to offer discounts to fill up the restaurants....generally 20-25%. Depending on our mood, we generally offer either BOGO or $30 pp for Murano and BOGO or $25 pp for QSine, Tuscan Grill. We don't like Silk Harvest which is Asian Fusion (I just won't pay extra for soggy nori, made far in advance, sushi rolls, etc) and have not been on a "lawn grill" ship yet although we are frequent celebrity cruisers.

We have upgraded (twice in the last 20 months) from Classic to Premium and used our 10% off coupon. On one of those cruises we upgraded as soon as we boarded and paid the full upgrade price. Later, when we got to our cabin we noticed the 10% off coupon and at a later time stopped by Guest Relations to see about getting credit for the discount. They said the request had to go through the Beverage Manager and sent him an internal e-mail. 2 days later we were credited back the 10%. The language on the coupon did not exclude upgrades...but simply said something along the lines of a 10% discount on "a beverage package" Arguably, when upgrading you are purchasing a different beverage package. Perhaps they have since changed the language on the coupons.

A couple of weeks back I upgraded to premium on Connie. Bar tender wrote the discount on the paper manual bill, and it got processed at the full price. Went to Guest Relations and they took off the old charge and rebilled it at the discounted rate (we had a 'complimentary' classic package, which some said are not upgradeable at a discount, but that didn't seem correct).

On a side, the discounts were loaded on to our card, rather than paper coupons, and it was a real pain most of the time, especially in the casino.

My recent experience on Millie (April) ..I had the Classic as a perk...upgraded with a waiter and was charged the regular upgrade rate. Went to Guest Relations and asked for the 10% discount on the upgrade price...was told she would have to check with the F&B Manager...answer came back NO...discount did not apply to upgrade...so sounds like it is indeed on a case by case basis!
