It's been a while... anything new?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm sort of new here. It's been a long time since I've been on the boards. My last cruise was in 2011 on the Majesty of the Seas.

I recently booked a cruise on the Symphony for June 2018 stopping in Italy, Spain and France. We are beyond excited!!

So I'm trying to research as much as I can even though it's still a year away. I'm a planner, I can't help myself.

I was looking through the board for info on any Oasis class ship thinking that the ships are probably similar and I saw a post stating that you are assigned check in times at the ship? Is this true? I've only done Caribbean cruises and was able to show at the port whenever I wanted.

Is there anything else that might be new that I should know about?

I knew I was of the loop because it's been 6 years but now I feel lost.

Anyone willing to kindly fill me in? [emoji4]

Alot has happened since 2011:

WOW Bands

VROOM High Speed Internet on the ships

Deluxe Drink Programs

Freestyle machines for soda-holics

Puzzle Rooms

8 story slides

Dynamic Dining has come and gone. YES!

Classic Dining is making a comeback.

Premium dining packages on the ships.

More premium restaurants

and so much more....

Oh, one newish thing that bugs me, cuz it was my favorite bar, is that the Vikings Crown Lounge (or whatever it was called), is now a private lounge on several ships :(. I think for suite guests?

Yep, non-suite guests lost Viking Crown on Oasis class ships.

No life jackets at muster drill.

I just read that you no longer have to fill out those tiny immigration forms at debarkation. Not sure if that is universal, but hope so.

Portions in the MDR seem to be smaller but you can always get more.

Prices on board are up overall, but what isn't?

Seem to be fewer roving waiters in the pool areas. Drinks are still readily available though.

Lifeguards at the pools.

Still the same:

Chair hogs.

T-shirts on formal night.

People who complain about them. :D
