wesport Posted May 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2017 I can book the flam railway on our own for 86 dollars vs 149 with HAL. Any cautionary tales related to doing this? I believe all you have to do is get your ticket validated. Has anyone done this in the past?
Rare VMax1700 Posted May 25, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2017 I am doing it next week! If no one else responds, then I will let you know what happened, when I get back home! When do you travel?
Ottawa traveller Posted May 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2017 I can book the flam railway on our own for 86 dollars vs 149 with HAL. Any cautionary tales related to doing this? I believe all you have to do is get your ticket validated. Has anyone done this in the past? Two years ago about 20 of us formed a group via CC on the CC roll call. One woman opened a Paypal account to collect our money and paid for all of us. We got a really good discount. I think we paid about $40. each. The woman who booked was well known on CC and we trusted her. There was no problem at the Flam end. They gave us half a car. Our CC group name was on the door to indicate it was ours. We had a great time. Leslie
thinfool Posted May 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2017 No...wait....with the HAL tour you get a waffle. I mean, who wouldn't want to pay $63. for a waffle? :D
Nang Posted May 25, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2017 A few years back I booked our tickets on line months ahead of our cruise - direct with the railway. No problems whatsoever. Use the "visitflam" site.
LondonTowner Posted May 25, 2017 #6 Share Posted May 25, 2017 Yes, just book direct online. I would imagine they send you an eticket. When we went we bought our tickets in the station, but it was a few years ago. The station is about 200m flat walk from where the ship's dock. Book it soon as they get sold out very quickly. surfcitygirl Posted May 25, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2017 We also booked our own online last year and they told us to get in the boarding line and checked it on the train. Great trip.

wesport Posted May 25, 2017 Author #9 Share Posted May 25, 2017 OK, visit flam is sold out, but NSB.NO still has all time slots available. $86 round trip flam-myrday-flam. Has anyone used the www.NSB.no site??

Nang Posted May 25, 2017 #11 Share Posted May 25, 2017 OK, visit flam is sold out, but NSB.NO still has all time slots available. $86 round trip flam-myrday-flam. Has anyone used the www.NSB.no site?? Just checked visitflam and could book 1:35-3:40pm. Is this too late? If not be very quick as that day is all but sold out. Don't worry about the short turnaround time at the top as there is nothing much to see or do. Its about the journey, not the destination.

Has anyone used the www.NSB.no site?? I also found the Flam railway site was sold out, but booked at NSB.No on the advice of the Flam tourist office. I haven't used the tickets yet, we are there in June, but I would grab those tickets if you want to go.
HUNKY Posted May 25, 2017 #14 Share Posted May 25, 2017 Depending on how long you are in Flam you might consider the Norway in a Nutshell tour. This can be booked online. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

wesport Posted May 25, 2017 Author #17 Share Posted May 25, 2017 So I just booked the tickets on www.nsb.no After several attempts with my visa, I finally used paypal. It worked. Got a pickup code number. Can pick up the ticket at the train station, the machine, or the app. Just an fyi. Such an adventure. I will buy my own waffle. Cruizer Bill Posted May 29, 2017 #21 Share Posted May 29, 2017 We bit the bullet and booked the "Best of Flam" excursion. It was excellent. Pricey, yes but lots of fun and no worries.
