Refund Problem

As a frequent cruiser on ships of the Carnival Group I had no hesitation in booking a three week cruise from Fort Lauderdale via the Panama Canal to Vancouver. I prepaid for the full suite on the cruise, the internet, the beverage package and gratuities. Prior to departing I noticed that my account was debited four times with the same amount for the Internet. On the day of departure I visited Customer Services on board to question this. The Purser apologized and agreed that I could use the over-payment to draw cash later in the cruise. During the later part of the cruise I approached Customer Services and asked for the cash plus I usually draw half of the prepaid gratuity to pay this to those members of the crew who went beyond the norm to make our cruise more enjoyable. I was told that it is the policy of the company not to pay cash either for the over-charging on my bank account or the prepaid gratuity! The original Purser I spoke to no longer was on-board. I was told that the Internet over-payment will be sent to me by CHEQUE even though they had a credit card machine which could easily repay the amount due to me. I live in part of the world where the postal system is unreliable and mail is known to disappear so I explained this but even though I elevated this to the Head Office in California and to the office in the UK, Princess refused to credit my account electronically. Absolutely disgraceful and archaic.

It would be a lot easier if they would credit back to your credit card, but they won't.

That being said, for the next 6 weeks or so (yes, it can take that long), keep an eye on your mail...all of it. The envelope that your refund check will come in looks like junk mail. Open all junk mail envelopes for inspection until you get your check.

It was an over charge not a credit balance so taking what money out of the casino? Lesson learned about prepaying for services not yet rendered for your future cruises.

I have had a check returned from Princess within 8 weeks so it will happen. Keep looking for it and if you don't get it by week 8 call again.

But a casino withdrawal incurs a fee, does it not? I won't pay to access my own money!

The casino will charge a fee, if you just walk up to the cashier cage and ask for a withdrawal.

The smart way to do it is to load some or all of your extra OBC onto a slot machine, play some (a little or a lot), all in one day or spread out over the cruise. When you've lost or won as much as you're comfortable with, go to the cashier and cash out. There's no charge to do this, only what you may have lost while gambling.:loudcry:

Probably double that for SA.

Move to a better place.

  • 3 weeks later...

I had a similar problem to some extent. Princess was to get me taxi from London airport to hotel. Taxi no there. Cost me $200. Eventually got my money back.
