Warning to gamblers sailing rccl/baltimore/grandeur !

Recommended Posts

Living in Maryland, very close to the MGM Grand at National Harbor, right on the Potomac river, I can say this. When MGM "won" the "so called" bid for the new casino, the state of Maryland passed a new law banning riverboats or any gambling on the water in the state. This included cruise ships on the Chesapeake, from any cruise line. Why they don't open the casino on board when they enter Virginia waters as before, I don't know. Perhaps more politics.

Pretty pathetic if you booked a cruise just to gamble. And then complain when you don't have your facts straight. Go have some drinks, maybe relax and meet some new people, you can throw your money away for many hours every other day after.

I am asking because I don't know, do you get certificates for money off a cruise because of how much you gamble or the time spent in the casino actually gambling? Does it have to be on tables or does it include slots?

Slots is easier to track, so yes

Certificates do offer a listing of complimentary cruises or you can use the certificate value amount off any cruise of your choice. Certs. are based on both time played and money wagered on either or both tables and slots.

It's hardly a gift. One has to gamble (and presumably lose) enormous amounts of money (by my cheap $20/night habit) in order to get that kind of invitation. Just a different pricing method.

Actually if you win you will get more and better free stuff at Casinos. They want you to come back because they know the odds are going to kick in and you are going to loose their money back to them hopefully with some of your own.

All you gamblers may want to consider rccl new policy does not open the first night on any cruise out of baltimore and closes the last night at 9pm. Really disappointed, as that is why booked it. Also noticed points reward changed. Not what you get, just how long it takes to get there, if you know what i mean. Is there a better casino reward program out there? Also, is the carnival cruise out of baltimore open the first night? Thanks
LOL sure just why I booked also....NOT. Thats why you booked your cruise, gambling on the first night, give me a break, And as stated earlier you are misinformed, it is not RCL policy.

One thing I don't quite understand here. If it's a Maryland law, do they really wait until they exit the bay before opening the casino. When I checked on my GPS I was surprised at how the state line followed the course of the Potomac and headed southeast from point lookout, extending a few miles south of Point Lookout before entering Virginia, but there still seems to be about 70 miles of Virginia waters before leaving the bay. It seems lie it would be a very late opening leaving Baltimore, but 5PM on the way back seems a bit early. Am I missing something here?

On our last cruise in May the casino closed, I believe, at 8:00. I remember that we got drinks at the casino bar and then went into the dining room for late seating. Katherine

Yes, it closed at 8:00 pm on June 9th as we entered the Bay.

The same is true sailing into or out of New Orleans (or it was when we sailed form there a few years ago) as there are several hours the ship in in the Mississippi river channel (and still in Louisiana) before it clears into the Gulf. The casino closed at 6 PM on the last night of the cruise.

Try NCL Casinos at Sea. They have a great reward program. I'm going on my 7th comped cruise of this year on the Escape today. Just have to pay port fees, taxes and an admin fee. I did book a cruise through Casino Royal this week on the 9 night Navigator later this year and received $400 off. CAS is a better program than Casino Royale these days.

I agree...NCL's casino at seas program is far more generous. You can inquire about any sailing. We have sailed with NCL yearly since 2005, each cruise comped with our choice of destinations ( Europe, Alaska, Mexico, and Caribbean ) . With RCL you have to pick from their choices of cruises ( the majority being Caribbean ) off of the certificate they issue you. ( and you have to make the decision on when you'd like to cruise again within 30 day!) Not so with Norwegian. You have 18 months that they will hold onto the info on your play to qualify for another comped cruise.

Also If you don't like the cruise selection that RCL has offered on your certificate then the certificate turns into a strictly monetary amount you can apply to another sailing, but that monetary amount is far lower than an the actual value of a comped room.

There is alot of fine print on the certificates issued by RCl...such as if a husband and wife both receive individual certificates for future cruises they can not combine their certificates or redeem on the same sailing. Never had this problem with NCL..

Yup..NCL in my opinion has a much better players program.

Wow, and thanks? It is amazing which way a thread goes from the start. I was simply informing gamblers that since the last time i was on grandeur at christmas the policy had changed and it limited your time to build points. I did not ask or even care why but was given many answers as to why of which only one could be right so what does that say about all you busy bodies who probably don't even gamble but just have to put your 2 cents in that was wrong anyway. I do think some of the conversation was informative but the boatload of crap offered up... Who know what to believe? Believe this, if your a gambler, don't take a short cruise out of baltimore. Good day..i said good day
