drink package daily limitations

I've been surprised at how many cruises have stayed the same price or gone up just slightly since the Sip + Sail was started this time.

Princess (and other cruise lines) are trying to maintain "price integrity" which means they do not want cruises to cost less later as you get closer to the cruise. The purpose for this is to encourage people to book early with the expectation that prices would only increase as availability of cabins decreased.

Part of this process is to add amenities to the booking instead of reducing the price without amenities. So when the price stays about the same when amenities such as AIBP, gratuities, etc. are added, then Princess is effectively lowering the cruise cost without actually lowering the basic price of the cruise.

As long as the limit only applies to the number of alcoholic drinks, I am okay with this. If it includes all drinks, then I may be in trouble. Between my 5am latte, my 8am latte, a bottle of water for after the gym, a coke or two at lunch, a couple of beers, a glass of wine before dinner, a glass of wine at dinner, an after dinner latte, a couple of drinks in the evening at the shows or casino, and one or two in the club at night and a bottle of water on the nightstand, I can approach 15 rather easily. Take out the coffee, water and soda and I'll barely make it to halfway to the limit.

8x15 = $120, the package is less than $60 so your maths are way off. The average drink being about $8.

I believe you miss understood the comment , I think they were referring to how much the cost per day the entire cruise price went up when Princess started the so called Sip&Sale sale this week compared to the prices for the same cruises last week..

YMMV

I booked a summer 2018 cruise and two early 2019 cruises when they first went on the market in order to get the "launch fares". Over the next few months I watched the price for those bookings. Eventually the price went up $100 for the 14-day cruises and $50 for the 7 day cruise. This increase was noticed well before the word about the Sip & Sail promotion was announced.

The day the promotion began my travel agent got the benefits of the promotion, (AIBP & Specialty Restaurant meal), added to all three of my bookings without any increase in fare. I was still paying the Launch Fares.

Needless to say-----I am a happy cruiser. In past years I was always told that I could not get a promotion added to a booking because it was "Capacity Limited".

How do you add the Sip and Sale to a cruise booked for Sept. 23 this year. Do u have to cancel the booking and re book?

It depends if your sailing is under the promotion or not.

I thought it was for 2018/2019 sailings?

You would have to call Princess or your TA if you booked with one.

I was just on princess site and don't see any mention of the limit? When does this start? We purchased this a few months ago for a July 1 cruise and just wondering if it will be in place by next week?

Per an e-mail I received 2 days ago from a Princess rep the limit of 15 alcoholic drinks in a 24 hour time period is starting in September 2018 - bottles of wine purchased with the 40% discount would not count nor would any coffees waters, soft drinks etc. The reason a friend of mine was given over the phone was due to sharing of packages.

People gaming the system end up hurting all of us - the reason they stopped using stickers were from people reusing old stickers or creating new ones on computers (they only used 4 different color)

Ours said MAY apply.

Whatever, it's only for alcoholic beverages not all drinks.

The reason its an issue because it affects the value of the promo.

Example:

NOT including nonalcoholic beverages - Carnival's cheers program has a 15 drink limit, but you can get drinks valued up to $50. An total value of up to $750 a day, again NOT including nonalcoholic beverages.

If Princess insists on a 15 alcoholic drink limit, current policy states good for drinks up to $10, that's only a value of $150 a day or 60% off $10 drinks. Anything over $10 you still have to pay for.

That said, the Cheers package 15 limit is clearly stated while Princess only says "limits may apply".

Now, if the limit is in place for just the Sip & Sail folks and not those that purchase the package outright, I see another whole can of worms.

I love the current AIBP cause it works for us. Hate to see limits cause people abused it.

Perhaps "limits may apply" is purposely vague. It allows the cruise line to cut off those that are abusing alcohol. Without putting a specific number on the drinks, if the bartender determines you have had enough, then the limit is going to apply to you!

Regardless, I am in the camp that 15 drinks a day is too much for any human. I am all for vacation and having a good time...but that does not include being drunk!

They can do this now. Even with pay as you go drinks. Seen it many times.

We booked our cruise 2 months ago. On Tuesday we added the SipNSail promo. The price of our cruise stayed exactly the same, so for us the promo was free. I cannot imagine that I could even come close to drinking 15 beverages, alcohol or not, per day. We are thrilled to have it added to our booking!

We did the same and added the SipnSail to our booking as well! Woohoo! Also got a free specialty dining!:D

Yes I have too. The bartender cuts the person off and then calls the supervisor. The supervisor then calls all the bars to notify them not to serve this person.

The intoxicated person may end up in what they call a focus file. The focus file is designed for passengers who's behavior needs watching. They post the passengers picture in the crew area's to alert the crew to be on the lookout.

No way. It all has to do with sharing a drink package and not being drunk. People can always get their wives to but more drinks but Princess has been losing out to people sharing the package & has decided to cap their losses.

I was on a 3 night coastal sailing from Vancouver to LA about 7 years ago before the all inclusive bevy package existed and we watched first hand this guy get sooooooo drunk in the nightclub, he started first with verbal altercations with passengers and progressed into punching another guest on the dance floor on the 1st night, he ended up getting quarantined to his cabin and wasn't allowed to leave for the rest of the sailing.

That did not happen. Our cruise for next Dec stayed the exact same price and I was able to add the SipnSail to it at no additional cost. Same thing happened last year, no additional cost when the SipnSail was added. So the price does not always go up.

I think the limit is only applicable to the SipnSail. I have the pkg purchased for our Nov 5 night cruise and there is nothing about limits. For our Dec 2018 cruise with the SipnSail, it shows limits.

It's not such a great deal considering they've raised the prices for cruises that include them. .

I was happy when our 2018 Alaska cruisetour went down by $100 per person. We are booked in oceanview obstructed, so there's no other benefit to the sale, but any time the fare is decreased...even by a small amount, I'm happy.

In contrast, we had originally planned to go to Alaska in 2017, and when the SipNSail promo came out in 2016, the price of our cruisetour did not go down. I think it stayed the same though many others who were on our roll call found great deals at the time. We had better luck with the 3 for Free promo in the fall last time.

My point is to keep watching the fares and if they go down (or in some cases go up slightly but benefits received is greater value than increased cost), make sure you notify Princess or your TA to recalculate your trip. They do have a limited number of spaces available for each sale, and you don't want to miss out. :D
