TIP: Laynards for SeaPass - bring one!

Recommended Posts

I'd love to wear a lanyard, but I DO wear my phone around my neck (it is my camera), and can confirm the phone will demag seacard. So I have to carry the card in a "nametag" type sleeve, clipped to my waist band and fumble with it to pay for drinks etc.

Me too. Hate looking like a tourist
To who? Everyone on the ship (crew excepted, but they're in uniform most of the time) is a tourist.

The tip off is walking through ports with the Seapass card showing in the lanyard;p

Funny, my lanyard (with card attached) will fit in a pocket, backpack, or under my shirt. With the exception of private islands, Seapass cards aren't needed ashore until you're ready to get back on the ship, so it can be put away. Whereas on the ship, it's needed at bars, getting back in your room, shops, etc.

FYI, some small clutch purses have a magnetic latch on them. Pre-lanyard days DW wiped out several cards on one cruise before we finally realized her fancy little Coach purse was the culprit.

Decided to sell my fancy little Coach purse at a charity Silent Auction because it kept de-mag my card, before I figured it out. The purse was not worth keeping....lol.

If you have a bracelet with a magnetic catch it can demagnize the card as well. Happened to me on Explorer 4 times until we figured out what was going on.:(:(:(

I do the same thing.... but be careful my last cruise the ink started to come off of the card..... ;)

Did you happen to use spray on sunscreen? We found out our last cruise (after replacing cards multiple times) something in the spray on sunscreen affects the ink on the sea pass cards.

Yup, happens to me on almost every cruise. Sigh.....

Have only been on 95 cruises and have never understood ladies with purses big enough to steal the ham out of the windjammer. There is no cash exchanged (other than casino) so we have our landyards on and they will fit inside our formalware or other clothing and we can go swiming or whatever.

LOL!! I totally got a laugh out of your post! Stealing the Ham!! :p:p

I feel the same way...what the heck are they thinking dragging those big purses around on the ship??!! I can see a bag to carry stuff to the pool...but a big purse at all times? ;p To each their own I guess.

Never wore a lanyard...never will. I purposely buy shorts/capris/dress slacks with pockets that will fit my sea pass card. In port, I most often just slip my sea pass card, passport card, charge card and some folding cash in my pocket. Simple. ;)

Nothing to demag with RFID cards used on Quantum class and Harmony.;)

Biker19 is right. Just to add, the new ships using the RFID type cards are not affected by magnets or cell phones. My DD had her cell in the case showed below and carried her SeaPass card in the slot all the time with no issues. She didn't even have to take the card out of the case to open the door. Just brought the phone up close to the card reader.

I used to wear a lanyard but our last few cruises I haven't. If it's a sea day I just put my card in my pocket, or if it's formal night and we're dressed up I put it in my clutch purse. If it's a port day and we're getting off the ship it goes in my wallet, in my small cross-body bag I carry. DH prefers to wear a lanyard.

Its not Gold level C&A but a Gold Seapass card. Why do they scorn them?

I believe she's suggesting that those who don't have the higher status levels don't want to show their cards for fear of being scorned by those who do. BTW - Are you IN Milwaukee? I'm just outside of Milwaukee on Tichigan Lake.

Will they punch a hole in your Seapass if you bring your own lanyard? We're bringing my GD and I'd like to get her a Vera Bradley one that matches her bags.

Yes, guest relations desk has a hole punch.

On a recent cruise, I thought I would save myself the line at guest relations and just packed a small hole punch. I ended up missing the mark so the "hole" was actually a semi-circle on the edge my card. When I next used the card to open my door, it got stuck. Maintenance had to come up and get it out, and I had to go down and get a new card anyway. :o:o

I have brought a hole punch and in 5 seconds it is done and not used again. I now go to guest relations and they have, so far, always punched it for me.

I have seen over time, people passing out a rubber attachment with their business name on it that you can attach to your cell phone without having to buy a whole new cell phone cover. It is promoted as a business card holder. The picture does look nice and functional

I wore a lanyard on my last cruise, and I found that other cruise passengers often assumed that I was a cruise ship employee and started asking me for directions. After a while, I just started pointing them the right way and smiled to myself. :)
