Check in to flight while still onboard.

Recommended Posts

We have a September cruise on the Explorer and I see that you can check in for your flight and have your luggage transferred to the airport while still on the ship. Has anyone used this, and how was it?

I'm not 100% sure, but I did not think Seattle had the Luggage Valet program.

Usually our flight are too early to use the "luggage valet." If you have the ship's wi-fi, you can use the their computers or any other type of equipment to check-in and print you boarding pass.

It might not be called that, but I do recall something like the OP is requesting listed in the Compass during our late May sailing.

I used the luggage valet program offered by RCI in Ft Lauderdale and would use it again as there were no problems and for the $20 fee, it was worthy. Be aware that flights have to leave after a specific time for one to use the program.

The port of Seattle has this offering, which is free...

On the port of Seattle web page they offer the service for free after your cruise, but only for certain airlines. Ours (Alaska) is covered. We are going to give it a try. We'll report back if it's a good service or if our luggage goes to Hong kong.

Really love the luggage valet program. I have used it several times without any problems. Have used the program from Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

One thing - there is a deadline to sign up - might have been Wednesday on a 7-day weekend-to-weekend cruise and they are very strict about timing. If you miss the time to sign up they won't add you at the last minute. I think that's something to do with the airlines and printing of boarding passes/luggage tags, etc. Heard someone at guest services trying to sign up after the deadline and it was definite no.

Good news, we were able to use the valet program! The form was left in our suite and we were disappointed to see that the earliest flight was 2:00 pm. Ours was at 1:55, so naturally we went to ask guest services. The young man working there said no, not even if your flight is at 1:59. This was very early in the morning and rather than demand his supervisor, I decided to come back when more staff was available. BINGO! We asked about the service without mentioning the earlier conversation and the young lady said she would put it through for us. On the last night our special tags and our boarding passes were there in our suite after dinner. This was the very happy ending to a great cruise. Cookies on first day (C&A), fruit on second day (suite perk), chocolate strawberries and 2 bottles of champagne on day 4 from the casino, and we actually received our Emerald pins in our suite without asking. Say what you want about west coast cruises, but this one was one for the books for us.

We'll be disembarking Serenade in Fort Lauderdale and then flying out of Miami that evening. We're flying back to U.K. with Virgin Atlantic. Does anyone know if we'll be able to take advantage of the luggage valet service too as that would be perfect!

For ship arrivals at Port Everglades, and guests flying out of MIA, the only airlines participating in Luggage Valet are American, Delta, and United, and Delta only for domestic flights.

As the previous poster said, no Virgin Atlantic !

It's because it is not including international flights, only domestic i think.

We are doing the same as you, and it would be a fantastic end to the cruise, but alas no.

We will have to deal with luggage, from early FLL arrival to early evening departure from Miami.

Even if you do a partner airline on list, direct to U.K I am pretty sure it's domestic only.

Thinking about a cruise excursion, so they take and keep safe luggage in coach, and take you to MIA in early afternoon.

So at least half the day is gone.

I was thinking the same thing about the excursion but unfortunately they're not running the hop on hop off bus tour or the open top bus tour which would've been perfect. I've hired us a car now that we'll pick up at Fort Lauderdale and drop off at the airport and I think we'll use the left luggage service at the airport so we can be luggage free for a few hours. It's either that or we sit at the airport for hours as we wouldn't leave the car with luggage in it!
