Does Mexico Travel warnings affect cruises?

Haven't found much on the cruise side, but we were curious how the cruise lines are dealing with the warnings.

Maybe just like in other ports like Kusadasi, Turkey, where there were also travel warnings, there could be port changes.

Cruise ships stop in Cabo San Lucas which is about 20 miles from Los Cabo where the airport is located.

I think if the warnings continue in time some of the ports may be cancelled.

Around 2010 there was a surge in violence in Mexico. Ships just bypassed the ports . In some cases went north instead.

For a while they skipped Mazatlan, but have since returned. Would not see them avoiding Cabo but might see more people making it a ships day and not tendering ashore.

There is also a State Department warning for Cancun and Riviera Maya. There have been numerous incidents of travelers passing out or having blackouts after only one or two drinks at resort hotel bars. Some are robbed or assaulted while incapacitated. There have been several deaths. The Mexican government has confiscated large amounts of illegal alcohol. I personally would not touch a mixed drink in that area right now.

Agreed - read this story and you'll understand why Acapulco is off the table as a port visit for almost all cruise ships these days.

I suspect cruise ships will continue to go as long as they are making money. Warning may have travelers book cruise line tours. We have been to Mexico so many times, we simply don't get off the ship... we go for ship experience only ... round trip out of San Francisco. Have done the cruise about 6 times, never gets old, since we only have to take a taxi to the ship San Francisco.
