I'm a first time cruiser and would like to know about Meals in the complimentary dining venues, i.e.:

  • Two main dining rooms on every ship except Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Getaway which have three
  • Buffet
  • 24-hour Dining venue (on select ships)
  • Room service menu items (convenience charge may apply)
  • Outdoor Buffet (on select ships)
  • Pool Bar and Grill (on select ships)
  • Coffee Bar (regular coffee and pastries included, specialty coffees at nominal extra charge.

Is there still an associated fee with dining in these venues and the two main dining rooms? or are they free of charge?

To be a little more specific about room service items:

Is Norwegian Cruise Line now charging for room service?

Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced an enhanced room service menu. The new menu offers an expanded selection for breakfast, in addition to a wider variety of options available 24 hours. Individual items on the menu remain available on a complimentary basis and a convenience charge of up to $7.95 USD will be added to each order placed (Morning coffee, continental breakfast and orders placed by guests sailing in The Haven will not attract a charge)*. Room service is one of up to 29 dining options offered across the fleet, and guests continue to be able to enjoy a wide array of complimentary choices onboard 24 hours a day.

*Prices subject to change

Also you may want to download the NCL Freestyle Dining Guide from the web site:

https://www.ncl.com/why-cruise-norwegian/cruise-dining

That tells you which venues are free, ala carte or have a fixed charge specifically for each ship in the fleet.

  • Two main dining rooms on every ship except Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Getaway which have three free.
  • Buffet free. On the mega ships mentioned above, they often open Monderno as a themed buffet on sea days (Asian, BBQ, Mexican). On small ships, many have an BBQ grill on deck at lunch time as an extension to the buffet.
  • 24-hour Dining venue (on select ships) free. On all ships.
  • Room service menu items (convenience charge may apply) continental breakfast free. Hot breakfast and all other food has a $7.95 delivery charge plus your tip to the delivery person.
  • Outdoor Buffet (on select ships) free. On small ships.
  • Pool Bar and Grill (on select ships) free. This is the BBQ mentioned above. Also, there are snacks at SpiceH20 on the big ships.
  • Coffee Bar (regular coffee and pastries included, specialty coffees at nominal extra charge. Not so much. There is sometimes free coffee in dispensers, but on most ships, everything at the coffee bar comes with an additional charge

If you are in a suite, the suites restaurant is free.

On most ships he Casino has snacks at night (fruit, sandwiches, wings) for players.

There are ship specific venues like the hot dog cart on the Breakaway.

You can eat for free around the clock on a cruise. In need Tom spend money on Specialty dining.

you got it, but the convenience charge for room service is a little more than minimal except for cont breakfast which is included. Also the ships have O'sheehan's which is 24 hour, like a coffee shop. The only charge you might want to consider is a small tip if you order cont breakfast room service. We usually give them a $ or 2$

Depending on what ship you are on, they may have blue lagoon or o'sheehans and/or jasmine garden which are also free.

Yes, MDR has a handful of upcharge items, as does jasmine garden but those are well marked. Still many free choices.
