St. Kitt

Couple of questions:

I'll be sailing on the Oasis on the 24th and instead of St. Martin the ship is going to St. Kitts. Anyone have any familiarity with that port and what some good suggestions on excursions might be (possibly, ATV/Jeep, or tours?).

Second, is there any shops at that port where I can purchase Cuban cigars (other ports we are going to is Puerto Rico and Labadee)?

Thank you,

Mark

I was in St Kitts two weeks ago and have been there a couple of times in recent years.

When you get off the ship, you find a whole load of ppl selling you tours. Some take you around the island, others simply offer transport to and from the beach. There may be other offerings but these two options seem to be the most popular.

The tours are operated by local taxi drivers, some in closed minibuses and others in open safari type buses. Cost if I remember correctly was about $25 for tour around island.

There isn't a lot on the island but a tour will enable you to check it out and make up your mind.

At the port there are touristy shops and places to eat. Worth exploring. Local shops and restaurants (non tourist) are also within walking distance of the port.

If you plan to spend time on the beach, remember to take a towel from the ship.

As I have mentioned several times and many others have agreed with, you will most likely be thrilled with any of the Thenford Grey excursions. They are terrific and reasonbly priced. We did the Grand Tour of St. Kitts, were fortunate to have Thenford as our guide and loved it. Check out all his tours at http://www.thenfordgreytours.com

I am sure St Kitts will have Cuban cigars every island I have been to other that US islands have sold them , but lots are not truly Cuban. Island is interesting has some black sand beach's also has a population of monkey's greater than of people.

Watch out for the "monkey men" at the port. They will try to get you to let a monkey sit on you and charge for a picture. There is a lovely little art gallery with local art at the pier shops, as well as all the usual jewelry, t-shirts, etc. An island tour is what I would do if first time there. Unfortunately, the beaches on St. Kitts are not nearly as nice as the St. Martin beaches used to be.

I am on the Harmony 9/23 to Eastern Caribbean, I am super upset, St Thomas and St John was the reason i booked this cruise, St Kitt does not have a beautiful beach like the virgin islands...... I don't know what are my options in terms of canceling, i don't see them refunding at all at the moment.

Cuban cigars

The only place that I know that has real Cubans is right inside the port area. There are a lot of fakes.

As you go thru the gates and into the plaza - look to the right.

There is a store above the casino that sells real Cubans.

Labadee is not going to have any Cubans. I have seen real Cubans in San Juan, but, unless you know what you are looking for, you are better off buying them in St. Kitts. More often than not, the cigars sold in the cigar shops on St. Kitts are legitimate. I'd suggest getting a 3 pack of "HOYO DE MONTERREY EPICURE NO. 2". Take a look at this, and pay particular attention to the cap to weed our fakes.

Your options are go on the cruise or don't, but you will not receive a refund from Royal Caribbean or your trip insurance unless you have a "cancel for any reason" clause (in which case you'll get a portion of your fare credited back). Harmony is a fabulous ship and St Kitts has some amazing views - you'll have a great time exploring a new location.

Better this than a scheduled land-based week vacation on St Thomas while the island is rebuilding :-)

Where do the ships dock, in relation to the Reggae Beach Bar Grill? Looking for someplace to sit on the beach and/or drink at a fun bar.

Reggae Beach Bar is about a 25 minute taxi ride from where the ship docks.

Cigar King--Where in St. Kitt's do you suggest to get authentic Cuban Cigars? Thank you.

La Cassa Del Habano It is easy to find, just google it.

Basseterre St. Kitts

Not cheap, but NO CUBAN CIGARS ARE CHEAP.

This is one of the ONLY places you can be POSITIVE that you are getting authentic Cuban cigars and not fakes.

Some places use fake cigar bands and copies of the boxes, even use real boxes repacked with fakes..

Is St. Kitts safe to do on your own? I have heard about the con artists trying to force monkeys on you, but once you get away from the port area is it safe to walk around and do things on your own?

We've been to St. Kitts about a half-dozen times and have always done things on our own.
