cakerbakermom Posted September 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2017 Family of four needing a hotel middle of February after debarking from a FLL cruise. Our flights are the next day (a Monday) out of FLL. We will be off the ship early in the morning and need something to do, a place to stay. We prefer not to rent a car, will have several suitcases, and prefer to stay somewhere near the airport as we have a 9am flight. Bonus if free shuttle to airport and hot breakfast. Also, inexpensive dining options are a plus with our kids. This is a new area for us and we have no idea about safe places, etc. Thank you. CruiserBruce Posted September 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2017 There are dozens of threads here on hotels, including the common recommendation to check sunny.org for a list of Ft Lauderdale hotels and their amenities, including shuttles. As also mentioned, the hotels are all pretty close to the airport, and taxis are cheap and plentiful. The key part here, IMHO, is that near the airport won't have a lot of things to do, or places to eat. Rather, staying on 17th St gives you more activities and food opportunities. Plus, a place like Embassy Suites will handle your family all in one room, most likely, with free breakfast and happy hour. A taxi to the airport is is less than $15. Rare Keith1010 Posted September 18, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2017 I too would recommend staying at the Embassy Suites. It is not right at the airport as CruiserBruce notes but it is relatively close. I have looked previously at all of the hotels closest to the airport and I too have come to the conclusion that they have very little to offer for someone who will be there as long as you will be and think you are better off at something like an Embassy Suites so you can walk around. JohninDC Posted September 18, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 18, 2017 www.sunny.org has lots of FLL area hotel and tourist info. ;) Most hotels will be happy to store your bags for a few hours if your room is not available before normal check-in time. Without a rental car I agree with the above - staying out near the airport will be boring.
