WaywardBlue Posted September 22, 2017 #52 Share Posted September 22, 2017 Good morning from the fabulous Best Western Airport Hotel in Baltimore Maryland!!! My live-in lover John and I have road tripped from Cleveland, eaten our crab cakes, relaxed in this lovely hotel and now it's almost time to hop on that shuttle and board the GotS!!!! Five long months I have been waiting for and imagining this day - while enjoying so many tips, photos and live reviews from you all here on Cruise Critic. I hope to add to that with my gauche and foolish posts over the next week or so. That's right.....this will, in fact, be my First Cruise EVER!!! First for either of us. Sure I live on Lake Erie and have been on small tour boats and river boats and there was that three hour tour on the SS Minnow that seems to drag on and on but nothing before so grand as a Grandeur is the Seas!! [emoji924] So please, follow along and be amused by my inexperience. I have a pretty good sense of humor so feel free to make fun of me and add any advice you see fit. As I understand it I should get up early place my belongs on a pool chair and never return. Then head to guest services and complain about at least five things a day that don't really matter and finally make sure I adjust all my gratuities to 0% before I leave the ship, all correct right?? I need your help here, friends! I have a wifi package and a drink package. I gather the former will be spotty and the latter spot on so that may affect my posts. You've been warned. [emoji483] Oh! And J'adore food porn so we'll begin with this lovely photo of the appetizer platter John and I shared at Timbuktu last night. Please follow with many comments about how I should have eaten somewhere else. I look forward to amusing you all for the next 10 days! Thanks! [emoji8] Lisa N Sent from my iPhone using Forums lol, beautiful beginnings! As wonderful as all subsequent cruises may be, there is nothing quite like the First Cruise EVER! Enjoy every moment! Hope you both have a fantastic time and bring home some great memories! Thanks for taking the time to share your vacation with us!
WaywardBlue Posted September 22, 2017 #53 Share Posted September 22, 2017 Hope you are feeling better...as mentioned above, if you don't have any sea sickness meds, you can get some on board for no charge...and I was surprised myself to find that green apples really do help... laumicmah Posted September 22, 2017 #54 Share Posted September 22, 2017 Following along. Thanks for sharing! I do have a favor to ask. We are booked on Grandeur for Jan 2019. My hubby is a big football fan. Especially college football. Can you see if there are any lounges on the ship with TVs that show college football tomorrow and then pro on Sunday? Also see if any is showing on cabin TV? If you get a chance. Thank you so much. We just got off the Majesty and had trouble watching football as all they showed was ESPN Caribbean that only showed soccer and never could find CBS or any of that. Enjoy your trip. And for the seasickness I bought these things called seabands at CVS. They work by pressure point on your wrists. I swear by them and no groggy-ness that you get with taking meds. Maybe your first stop has a pharmacy near port or maybe the ship store has them.
CLE2CRUISE Posted September 23, 2017 Author #55 Share Posted September 23, 2017 Good Friday morning all!! So we're going to go ahead and skip over Thursday and pretend this is day 2 of my cruise. Without getting to graphic, we both spent the day alternating between being sick and laying around waiting to be sick - as did the majority of the ppl on board. I know I'm new but I take it from others these were pretty bad waters. We got a couple of announcements from the captain that we were still safe and the boat could handle worse but shows were all cancelled last night. Bonine, Dramamine, seabands and green apples were all tested, no luck but I think those of you with the advice of getting ahead of it were right. Next time I'll know - and be sure to take something before we had back! For now, we should be docking in Boston soon and I'm excited to get off the ship and look around. First, a shower. I'm hoping to not get attacked :D!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

John is big on college football and will be looking for the Ohio State game today. So far we've found there is pretty much nothing on the in room TV but they did have ESPN. They did show the Thursday Night Football NFL game at the pool. I'll let you know what we find today. Will there still be college football in January? laumicmah Posted September 23, 2017 #58 Share Posted September 23, 2017 Buckeyes are on BIG10 today so you guys may have trouble seeing it. We were going to go to our fave pub here but they don't get Big10. I meant to also yell you that when cruising out of the bay it is always pretty rocky. Should be better for you the rest of the way. We did Canada cruise a few years ago and it was nice...love Halifax. But it will be chilly. Hope you are felling better.

chawkjewel Posted September 23, 2017 #70 Share Posted September 23, 2017 is it ok to ask them not to do this? I find this thing somewhat terrifying. [emoji33] Sent from my iPhone using Forums I always present it to the steward as “please take a break from our room, I will just see what out traveling companions have”. They may appreciate the time they don’t have to spend doing that. Sent from my iPad using Forums
shippmates Posted September 24, 2017 #71 Share Posted September 24, 2017 Yes that was the famous Coconut Ranger Cookie. They are one of my favorite along with the sugar free chocolate chip. They are very good also. Glad you are feeling better and and enjoying your cruise on the Grandeur.
CLE2CRUISE Posted September 24, 2017 Author #72 Share Posted September 24, 2017 Dinner at Chops tonight was a delight! John made the better choice of the filet in the pic. So very flavorful. My branzino was a bit bland but the sides were delicious and the carpaccio once again amazing! John liked the crabcake too.
