You've already found some of our favorite parts of the ship! Would also appreciate an update on who the "house band" in the Centrum is. Hubs and I dance, and while the band that was on for our cruise in March and just ended their engagement over the summer was fun to listen to, they were kind of hard to dance to. I've seen the name "Locomotion" on a couple of other message boards, but no comments on the danceable quality of their music. We'll be in the Centrum 4 weeks from tonight regardless, but would like to know if we'll be at the bar or on the dance floor! Thanks so much!

Looking forward to following your review and then our first time on the Grandeur (to the Caribbean though) in about a month.

We've cruised to Canada/NE several times... One our favorite cruises. And love the lobster rolls in Maine and Halifax.

Enjoy.... I'm having fun through you.

Well I've learned one thing about cruising so far.... I am not up to par with YorkVillian or TheDougOut! At least not the first night after that carb heavy Giovanni's dinner and five cocktails. [emoji42]

Night night all. And thanks for following along on my first day :)

Haha. Stick with the proteins and avoid the carbs at dinner. That will help you avoid the dreaded food coma.

Great review so far. And welcome to the Grandeur Fan Club!

Following. We are on this itinerary in late October. We've been on Grandeur many times, but have never gone North. We are interested in finding the best lobster rolls and poutine to be had in our ports of call, so please go to as many tasting sessions as you can and report back here frequently! Any other insider information you have to offer is also most welcome, as the only place we know for sure what we are going to do is Boston (day trip on our own to Sam Adams using the "T.") Wishing you fair winds and following seas.

As a lifelong Bostonian, I highly recommend Harpoon - it's walking distance from the cruise port and has a much better taproom than Sam Adams. Depending on how long ypu are here for, both are totally doable (I'd recommend Sam Adams first, then lunch then Harpoon). I live and work in sight of the cruise port if you want lunch recommendations.

We just got off of her this morning. Second time on Grandeur with a third one booked. The weather sucked thanks to Jose but the cruise was fantastic. We had such a good time.

We did the sushi making class up in Izumi. What a riot that was. If you like sushi, DO IT!!! You won't go away hungry.

So I just finished one of the greatest dinners of my life (no kidding!) and thought I might share some photos with you. Thank you Giovanni's Table! What an incredible first night :)

This is so helpful! I love local

Recommendations. Thank you. I'd love to hear about anything else good to eat/drink close to the port

So along the outside of the Design Building (that big white thing next to the cruise port), there are a bunch of take-away places in shipping containers. I haven't been to any of them, but they look cool. There are some outposts of local favorites there. A little farther away, towards the city, is my favorite place for lunch, Committee. It's sort fancy Greek food. The spanakopita grilled cheese and tomato soup is amazing. They also have amazing famcy drinks.

There is also a Legal Seafood and Legal Test Kitchens, both of which are local favorites. And Hook and Co for lobster if that's your thing. And, if you want an experience, there is a conveyor belt sushi place, Yo! Sushi.

Everything I listed is within a 20 to 25 minute walk of the cruise port.

thanks for those amazing pictures! Would it be possible for you to tell us what they were? I know that sometimes it's obvious but not always. I like to keep track of the names of the dishes that are posted so that I can order them too - when I have the opportunity!!

Keep them coming and enjoy every minute!! Camelia

Oh of course! I'm sorry I didn't. The big meaty mound was ossobuco. Very very good. Definitely better than the shrimp I had in the other picture, which was tasty but difficult to eat. The thin red meat was beef carpaccio - which is a favorite of line and that was probably the best I've ever had. The small packets on toast were prosciutto wrapped mozzarella. I'm adding the menu pics here which I think I forgot to post last night.

Oh and desserts! The staff were so nice and knowledgeable! They have us a little of each :) tiramisu, cannoli and a lovely moist chocolate cake with frangelica and hazelnuts!

We are heading up to Boston today and into some rough waters thanks to Jose. Woke up feeling a bit queasy but I'm confident I'll get my sea legs soon and be posting more lovely food porn! Feel free to send your favorite anti-seasick suggestions!

Oh and the Meet and Mingle was great this morning!! I got to chat with A few members of the boards and put faces to names - so fun! Thanks Donna from KY and family for being so friendly and outgoing :)

Enjoying your review!

Grandeur is near and dear to my heart. I have sailed on her many times and always have a great cruise.

I tend to get sick in rough seas so I always start medication the night before I board the ship. I take Bonine. If you continue to feel queasy you can get pills either at the purser's desk or the medical facility. No charge. They are non-drowsy. The secret to controlling sea sickness is to not let it get ahead of you. Hope the seas settle down for you.

When we ported in Boston we got tickets to the Hop on Hop off trolley. It was a great way to see the city. You can get them after you get off the ship.

Have a great cruise.

I have to agree - I too take the Canadian version of Bonine (Gravol) usually on the first night..till I find those sea legs and then I'm usually fine after that. In cases where the seas are very rough though I've heard that eating green apples and dry crackers are great to settle the stomach...as well as ginger..so a glass of ginger ale might do wonders. I know everyone has their favourite remedies..
