I am receiving on board credit from EX and unfortunately, they advised me that the on board credit they will give me will not be able to be used for Gratuities. This is my first time using a TA so i'm not exactly sure how true that is.

When Seattle send the amount of shipboard credit that you get from various sources, they do it in a lump sum. The Pursers office on the ship does not know who has given you what amount.

It shows up on your shipboard account as one amount. Thus it can and will be used towards your Hotel Service Charge.

Looking at my final bill for my recently completed Westerdam cruise it shows lines for Gift Orders - Preliminary Manifest which total the amount of purchased OBC, and Promo Credits totalling the sum of HAL provided OBC. This has been the case on all my cruises, at least for the past few years. So they DO know how much was provided by HAL and how much was given by Travel Agents and purchased. On my Feb cruise a supervisor had to verify that I had spent more than my HAL OBC before my refund was authorized. The HSC was paid against HAL OBC.

Explore4 maybe? Grautities are not included in Explore4 this year.

As far as the OBC goes, HAL will credit it to your onboard account and the charges just get applied. I don't think HAL's system is sophisiticated enough yet to differentiate.

 

OBC I get from various sources is not to be used in the casino but nothing/no one stops me from charging in the casino ;)

 

I suspect you will not have an issue unless there is a sudden, massive change.

OBC from your TA does not show up anywhere that I have ever seen - including your express docs.

 

I just bring my TA's confirmation with me and check my account when I get on board.

 

All my TA OBC's have always been there ;)

You should print out your invoice from the TA and take it with you. Chances are it won't show up anywhere on the HAL site, if it does, it would be on your itinerary on the first day showing as a gift. Most likely the TA won't even purchase the OBC until just before your cruise, maybe a week or so.

When we have received an OBC, it has been applied to our on board ship account, which reduced any charges to our account, whether they were the HSC or any other purchase charged to the account. We have not had a problem.

This is one of the most confusing threads, starting with the OP's less than clear question. What is meant by gratuities? By "EX?" (turns out it is a TA); now, where did the quote come from? On the HAL website, I presume, but where? And to further confuse the issue, HAL refers to "Pre-Paid Hotel Gratuties", in referring to early booking benefits. But . . . as everyone has commented, all the OBC's, from any source, go into one basket and are used as credits against your account. So . . . has anything been accomplished here? Other than to tell the OP that their TA is probably giving them bad advice.
