Current Open Hotels in San Juan

We are sailing on Celebrity Summit on 10/28/2017. I am traveling with two 87 year olds. I have had 6 reservations cancelled. I really can not find us a hotel room and I am very leary of renting a house. If anyone knows of a hotel that will be available on 10/27/2017 I would greatly appreciate the info. Nobody will refund our money even though we have trip cancellation insurance. They will refund a small portion but we may have to do that if we can't get a room. The airlines can't change our flight either.

La Terraza in Old San Juan is open but barely. They said they are running emergency lights from a small generator and do not have AC or guest wifi. No power anyplace in Old San Juan except businesses running on generators it seems.

When I contacted them for confirmation, they did have my reservation I had made two days ago in booking.com so surprisingly that worked. Note they do not answer their phone and voicemail is full. They responded to the direct email below pretty quickly so I'd go that route to check true availability and reserve.

Once I managed to reach the hotel by direct email reservations@laterrazahotelsanjuan.com and heard the situation described above, I decided to cancel my reservation. But, hey, it is a bed if you are desperate.

I just called Hyatt House and they are not taking reservations until 2018 and they cancelled my reservation for Dec. 27th 2017.

Which Hyatt House? I called the 800 number on the Hyatt House website yesterday morning. It was answered by the Hyatt call center. She said Hyatt House will be opening December 1st. We have a January 6, 2018 reservation there, and she said it should be fine.

Now I'm worried again.

Try the Olive Boutique Hotel. Their Facebook page says they are open and have power and water but their phones are not working so you will need to book on line.

Thank you for the suggestion. I checked on the website and the 27th just happens to be the only date they have no availability.

Hello everyone:

Try to follow Condado Insider in Twitter. Lots of good information

https://twitter.com/condadoinsider

Also, an updated list of current open hotels in San Juan

That list seems to be copied directly from PuertoRicoNow which is inaccurate. As an example they have been showing Hyatt House as opening from 15 October ever since they started their list but it has been reported on this very thread just a few posts above yours (post #51) by someone who spoke directly with them that they will not be open until next year.

I would be very wary of trusting that list.

None of the lists are accurate. Calling reservations in yucca flats Idaho is not going to help you. The people at 1 800 reservations are not in Puerto Rico, so they are glad to take your reservation.

Some of the hotels have no working phones, so it is impossible to verify if they are or will be open. So that being said, you are either going to find a decent hotel and pay 300/night or you will find something that you would NOT want to stay in. FEMA is occupying 90% of all the good hotels, Embassy Suites, Hampton, Sheraton etc. Many of these hotels are running on generators. I am not trying to be a pessimist, just a realist.

If you need a post cruise hotel for a few days, consider flying to Florida after the cruise and staying there. If you need a pre cruise stay - fly to Miami the night before and grab a flight to SJU the morning off the cruise.

That's what I am doing for the Nov 11 Summit cruise. American Airlines was very helpful and allowed me to modify my reservations without charge.

Try looking on Booking.com and then go to the individual hotel websites and call. There are a lot of smaller hotels listed there as having availability on your dates. While they may not be the best places to stay, its probably better than spending the night at the airport.

Although hopefully now that FEMA have chartered Carnival Fascination to house its workers this will free up much-needed hotel rooms.

Carnival Fascination has been chartered to house FEMA workers in St Croix, not San Juan.

FYI - we were booked at the Hotel Miramar for December 1st. We did speak to someone and they have a re-opening date of November 30th which is cutting it a bit too short for us. They currently do not have power or water.

I just got off the phone with the San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino and they are taking reservations for Nov 1st. I spoke directly to the hotel and they have power and water.

I've been chatting with the hotel we have booked for Jan 12, 2018 (Coral Princess) - and now it's a little less certain whether we'll be able to stay there. They had previously communicated with me that they're open and never closed, using a generator, etc. BUT - now they've told me they're housing FEMA workers for at least 90-days and she said "it's too early to tell whether they'll be able to honour our January 12th reservation."

That's what i am trying to tell you. You can say you have a reservation and that "they told you that they will be open" but I would not count on it.

Two of my reservations cancelled and I spoke to the front desk and was ASSURED that my reservation would be good for Nov 12 -15th IT WASN'T.

Has anyone heard anything to/from/about Holiday Inn Express in Condado? We are scheduled there one night pre-cruise on 11/11.

I emailed them yesterday, but did not receive a response yet. I will probably call later today, but just wanted to know if anyone has any updates about them.

If you go to the hyatt house san juan website it tells you to call an 800 number for reservations. I did so and they told me my reservation was cancelled and they refunded my prepaid reservation. Here is the clip on the front page:

A Wonderful Waterfront Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Hyatt House San Juan operations have been impacted by Hurricane Maria’s recent passage through the area. The hotel is currently closed and not accepting reservations until further notice. Hyatt House San Juan will waive all cancellation charges and refund all deposits for stays during this period, and will work with each traveler to make future arrangements. Guests with upcoming reservations should call 1-800-323-7249 as storms have affected hotel communications.

The holiday inn condado called to confirm my reservation Wednesday ... and Thursday called and left a message cancelling my reservation. I did tell them Wednesday when speaking with them that they were my back up reservation.
