EDIT: A friend said there was one on deck 18 of Golden Princess. It was in 2010. He is not sure if it is still there.

I've only seen that on our river cruise in Europe.

Deck plans of Golden and Grand shows a Deck Chess Set on deck 16.

The Grand has one.

The Island Princess has one.

The Star Princess has one.

They are located on the Sports deck. Other ships may have them too. These are the only ones I have seen.

It's still on the Golden though I've never seen the actual pieces, they'll be stored somewhere if you asked.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the chess board on most of the Princess ships (10?) we've been on (except the Pacific). The pieces are usually present.

As others have said, there is one on the Grand, but it's rotated 90 degrees.

The chess pieces are slightly above waist high. So unless real-life knights and rooks were really really small in days of yore "life size" is a bit of an exaggeration. The board on the deck is not large enough to host a "live action" human chess-piece game.

Is there a point to giant chess as opposed to normal chess on a board except that everyone can see how badly you play?
