lisaem79 Posted November 8, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2017 I'm taking the stingray tour with Acquarius and the description states the tour is only 3.5 hours long. Once they drop us back off at the port is there anything to see within walking distance? I would like to visit a beach or do some shopping. Rare Keith1010 Posted November 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2017 The ships stop at two different ports. Some dock closer to the downtown area which is fun to walk around. There are lots of shops, places for lunch and also places for drinks. Keith
bookbabe Posted November 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 9, 2017 There is only one official port, with three terminals, all within a five or ten minute walk of each other, right in the heart of downtown. (Occasionally in rough weather, ships will go to a backup area outside of town, then you'd take a taxi or shuttle downtown.) The downtown area has some nice souvenir stores, some crappy cheapo souvenir stores, and the usual assortment of 'port stores' like Diamonds International. All are an easy walk from each other and the terminals.
cb at sea Posted November 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2017 You can walk around the main area...or hop on a bus and head to the beach (if you haven't already had enough sun for the day!)...or get back on the ship, and enjoy it before all the passengers come back! lisaem79 Posted November 27, 2017 Author #8 Share Posted November 27, 2017 Thank you and I hope you have a fantastic time! Back from my cruise. Here are my observations from the Acquarius tour... 1. The meeting spot wasn't very specific, it stated the general area but there were so many people trying to find their tour meeting locations we had no idea who was with who. We asked around and one person would point over there then another over there we finally asked someone to call the tour guide. He was standing OVER THERE! He was later than the confirmation said which put a damper on things since we were waiting for so long in the heat 2. The group was ushered into a Public Bus which I found odd, you'd think they'd have their own bus/driver 3. When we arrived we were escorted to the boat where there were others already waiting, these people were from nearby hotels. 4. The snorkeling location left a lot to be desired, not many reefs with pretty fish 5. Starfish point was VERY disappointing....the water there was a light brown and so were the starfish. 6. Stingray City - lots of boats already there when we showed up. One of our guides, don't remember his name, was a little too egotistic for me, he kept saying his "girls" know his voice...blah blah blah - I finally questioned where his "girls" were because none were coming near us. This part of the tour was okay. I can now say I've been there, done that. And probably wouldn't do it again. But hey for $50 plus tip you get free photos and a nice day trip. OCruisers Posted November 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 27, 2017 After your tour it would be easy and convenient for you to shop around in town! :)

Sorry to hear about your experience with Aquarius. Agree, Starfish point is like a 15 minute stop at most but they're starfish, they really don't do much. LOL We've had fun at Stingray City at all crowd levels. I rather enjoy seeing other people's reactions to stingrays as well. Try Smith's Beach for snorkeling, next time. nicstress Posted September 6, 2018 #12 Share Posted September 6, 2018 Can you elaborate on Smith's Beach? is this a beach where you can do shore snorkeling?I am sure they are referring to Smith's Cove which is only 10 minutes from town. Snorkeling can be hit or miss but is generally a hit. Bathroom/shower available but nothing else so bring your own drinks. Great place. We spent time here when vacationing in Grand Cayman and plan to go there on 2 upcoming cruises. Just Google it and you will see how beautiful it is. We used Aquarius last year and enjoyed the adventure, but you are so right about the one obnoxious guy, Duane. What a knucklehead. The others, Captain Mario and Antonio were great, but a little of Duane goes a very long way. Overall we had a good time and thought we got good value. TravellingBritNY Posted September 11, 2018 #14 Share Posted September 11, 2018 Starfish point got affected quite badly with the Sargassum seaweed this year, as did Rum Point. Even though a lot of it has cleared, the decomposition caused the water to be brown. This is normally not the case at all - the waters are usually very clear there. I'm not sure which snorkel spot they went to, but usually they are the ones by the barrier that splits the North Sound from the open sea - usually there are a decent number of fish there with plenty to see.
