danny8826 Posted November 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Hi, We are emerald members on Royal Caribbean, but we haven't cruise with Celebrity Cruise before. We are considering the Celebrity Constellation, Italy and Spain cruise from Rome but we have a few questions about food and entertainment portions. Hoping someone can help us out. 1. From watch YouTube videos, it looks like the buffet serve stakes? sushi? make to order pasta? 2. Would you say the food are better than Royal Caribbean? 3. How are the evening shows? Are they variety type of shows? 4. Are there any games that guest get involve during the day when at sea? Just trying to get a field what it would be like daily. Thank you for your help. Danny The do serve steaks, fish and chicken freshly cooked at the buffet. There is no longer sushi at the buffet. It is available at Sushi on Five which is a for fee ala carte restaurant. There is made to order pasta and stir fry as well as pizza and hard ice cream. I'd say that both the food and service are better on Celebrity. The evening shows are okay, some production shows and some visiting variety entertainers. There are trivia games, bingo, fewer pool games than on RC. Celebrity does not allow smoking anywhere indoors, including the casino. There are a few designated spots for that, a small area portside on the pool deck and on deck 5 (I think) also port side. There may be a spot at one of the outside bars but I can't remember since it's been a while since we were on Connie. It's a lovely ship with a great crew. Make sure you check the art and sculpture around the ship, it has a very quirky collection.

Can we wear pants and a nice t-shirt to the main dining room?
Luvcrusn Posted November 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Here's a link to Celebrity's dress codes onboard. The old formal nights have been replaces with "Evening Chic" and the rest are "Smart Casual." There's a broad range of interpretation in both, however I wouldn't recommend tee shirts, but instead a nice polo shirt for the Smart Casual. Read the link and interpret for yourself. https://www.celebritycruises.com/company/customer-support/help-and-faqs/during-your-cruise/onboard-dress-code

I never turned up in my pants, would have looked funny in my undercrackers, but usually wore trousers and that is called English??:D The guest entertainers were brilliant on Constellation in September. He's from the US, pants are not undergarments they are what you would call trousers. Pants, trousers, jeans, are okay, a t-shirt is not, generally they want a shirt with a collar. Luvcrusn Posted November 16, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2017 I think that probably the post with the link to Celebrity's recommendations for dress answered the question asked by the OP. Regardless of what you want to specify as the language, it's written in English and clearly states the guidelines. OP can decide their own preferences according to their interpretation. Have a great cruise. Many threads on cruise critic deteriorate into argument once dress code gets discussed. The answer is do what suits you within the guidelines on the website and you will be fine. Love to dress up at least the 2 nights. I usually add the extra $50 and go to the Specialty Restaurant and dine! It's like going to Homecoming or Prom. The wife loves seeing you all dressed up! (it makes you feel you might be in the top 1% for the evening. :LOL

Rare Cruise Raider Posted November 26, 2017 #17 Share Posted November 26, 2017 Hi, We are emerald members on Royal Caribbean, but we haven't cruise with Celebrity Cruise before. Are they variety type of shows? 4. Are there any games that guest get involve during the day when at sea? Just trying to get a field what it would be like daily. Thank you for your help. Danny 1) They have a variety of items in the buffet but it has been a little more limited than it used to be. You can still get nice dishes, some of which are made to order, in the buffet at dinner time (some are even available for lunch as well). 2) Oh my goodness ... YES! I know food is subjective but it is worlds better on Celebrity than on RCCL. 3) We've found the entertainment to be good on Celebrity but it is without all the spectacular hooplah that you will find on RCCL ... no parades, ice skating shows, etc. They have a rather predictable line up on entertainment and not geared towards children so much. Typically, you will have a couple of production shows (usually really well done), a magician, a stand up comedian, a singer, physical comedy (jugglers and such), maybe a blast to the past show and/or cirque de soleil type of acrobats and maybe even some local talent brought on in the overnight or late night port stays. 4) Some scheduled activities / shows that invite participation are the newlywed game, battle of the sexes competition, cooking / bartending demos, bingo, raffles, slot tournaments (more so in the evening), etc. Also, depending on the itinerary, they may have some officers vs the guests competitions set up (bocci ball, croquet, cornhole, lawn darts) ... they can get quite crowded on sea days, not so much on port days. Celebrity is a lot more subdued than RCCL and seems to attract more middle aged couples and a lot less children. I wouldn't call it non-stop action .... one of the busiest areas you will find is the martini bar, especially right around the dinner hours. They also have a variety of music set up in the Grand Foyer, for listening if in the day and more for dancing in the evenings. Oftentimes, they also have some additional music with dancing available in the Sky Lounge late in the evening and maybe a comedian in Celebrity Central as well. There is a movie theater onboard that is not such a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon, too, if that is to your liking.
