Port of Miami 7 AM for 11:40 FLL flight?

Yup. No problem. You have to do self-carry off and plan to be in line early (definitely don't wait until you hear the announcement for self carry off). On a recent Sky cruise, we self walk off started at 7:10, we were on the curb by 7:20 and inside the secure area of MIA (not FLL) by 8:20 after checking bags with the airline and getting through security. FLL would be an additional 30 minutes-ish.

Also, how did you get off by 7:10?? This cruise docks at 7. I was told it takes about 2 hours to clear, which means earliest I could walk off would be 9!

I'm not sure of your cruising experience. Not all cruise disembarkations are the same. You will have to go through Customs at the port. I've been on cruises where it's been very quick and easy (walk-off basically) while others have taken over an hour. There is no definitive answer although the odds are in your favor. Still very close though. I hope this helps.

You were told wrong. The ship is usually in port earlier than 7:00.

We did self debarkation and were at FLL at 9:15.

OP you should be just fine!

Just off The Getaway last week cruise. We lined up about 6:45am. The line started to move a little before 7am.

Off the ship and cleared customs in less than 8 minuets and in an Uber 3 minutes later to Ft Lauderdale.

Got to Ft. Lauderdale about 8:12am or so in plenty of time for our 10:30am flight.

the title says it all. January 27 arrival on the escape into Miami and I need to catch a flight out of lauderdale to Canada at 11:40. Ship docks at 7 AM as per itinerary.

Hiring a private car or Uber.

will I make it?

You might make it and you might not make it. Either way it is going to be very close. You have to clear immigration at the port. It can be relatively painless or it can take a bit of time, it all depends on the mood of the customs agents. It is then about a 50 minute drive to FLL, and you need to be there no later than 9:30 because it is a circus on Saturday with cruise passengers.

You can make it if all goes ell, but you might not.

I was on the Escape in September. I read that we should line up at 7:30 if we wanted to walk off of the ship. We lined up at 7:00 a.m. and the line started moving at 7:30. Once it started moving, we were off very quickly and were at the Miami airport a little after 8:00 a.m. I think you should have no problem making your flight since you are using private transportation. I would never use the ship's transportation for an early flight because they have to fill up the entire bus before it leaves to the airport.

We were on the Escape in November. First time we did walk off. We were at the curb about 7:30 am. We took a shuttle to National car rental and had reneged the car and were on the highway by 8:00. You should be just fine to make your flight. Enjoy your cruise.

I think I’ll go for the 11:40 flight thanks a lot guys.

I want to take private transportation, but how is it getting from ship to car... will I save a lot of time pre-booking a private hire car or is it just the same to flag a cab or Uber? In my only other experience, Barcelona on the epic, there was Organized chaos, long windey lines to get cabs, but all in all, the line kept moving and we got one after waiting about 20 minutes being in line. Is it the same sort of setup at port of Miami?

Nothing like this in Miami. I did find when I got off the MSC Divina in August, a lot of people were waiting around for their Uber/Lyfts/private drivers. We hopped right in a cab with no waiting. Set fee going to the airport.

We've been on the Escape 5 times. Always use early walk off. While you can get delayed, we have yet to have problems getting to either MAI or FLL. Last cruise, in September, they were shocked when we got to the Delta skyclub. They were sure we came from Port Everglades. We were off the ship, through customs, taxi to FLL, through security and sitting in the skyclub lounge @ 8:30 am.

5 times! That’s a good sign for the quality of the ship. I’m glad to hear you’ve enjoyed it enough to have taken it that often.

The Escape has the best crew of any NCL ship, hands down. We'll see what happens after the Bliss is in service. They always move a lot of the best to the newest ship. The Joy didn't count, since they wanted them to learn and speak mandarin. As a result, some of them got out of going.

Recently returned from an overseas flight with a transfer in Ft Lauderdale airport.

Landed and processed through customs with no issues and very professionally. It took us over 3 hours to clear TSA to get to the domestic flight. They were requiring everyone to remove every electronic device from their bags and checking every item (they broke my $1600 camera lens manhandling it but I did not know that until I got home and went to use it several days later). They were confiscating bottles of alcohol that were coming from duty free shops in sealed containers unless they were in English with an English receipt. Those that were they opened and then manually chem tested every single bottle.

It took them 8 minutes to manually check DW's bag because of the strange object inside it, a large stone tablet. Several people in line missed their flights because of how terrible, over the top, and rude TSA is at Lauderdale.

We did this today for an 11:15 am flight out of Miami.

A few lessons....bring your baggage with you to O’Sheehans. It opens for breakfast at 5:30 and it is the closest breakfast area to the Line. We got there around 6:30 and did not have our baggage with us...big mistake. One person ran back for the bags. We put our bags in line and we’re about the 50th or so and the Line extended to the casino within 20 minutes. We ordered Express breakfast...eggs inedible, bacon and hash browns good. Line started moving around 7:45. Through customs in less than 10 minutes, called an Uber which took some coordinating with a friend of the driver calling me because the driver did not speak English. Had to follow her to a lot across the street. My sister did Lyft and her rate was almost $2 less, by the way. The drive was less than 20 minutes and we were dropped off at 8:20 am.

BUT....ship did not dock at 5 am as captain reported it would....it was after 6. 2... you’d better be serious about getting in those lines early...at the ship and at the airport. After we dropped our bags the line to check in was very long at the airport. On the ship the elevators will get very busy and the line will build quickly too. Best of luck.

For self walk off, YES! We knew there would be lines. They listed the priority as: walk off/no assistance then Gold/Platinum pre-arranged priority then into flight times/NCL transfers. I would say there were between 200-250 doing self walk off. Some people were waiting a level lower than we were but they might have been Haven. As soon as we exited the elevators there were crew with signs and roped off areas to direct you to the cues. By the time someone from our party got back from checking the cabin one last time the lines were past the Casino and it disappeared somewhere. Be patient and prepared and you will be fine!
