Goofymom3 Posted December 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Back from our cruise, had a great time, loved the ports (the reason we picked this ship) and thought I would offer my 2 cents. The ship was pretty, I didn’t see the wear and tear others had mentioned. All public areas were kept clean and I really couldn’t complain about that at all. We had a large balcony room. I really think the room was just so so. The wave wall idea was a bad one. There was plenty of storage for two people but beyond that I would be concerned about space. The bathroom didn’t bother us much, however if our son had gone along it would have been an issue. And the lighting was very dim...it was tough to see to put on makeup. Our room steward was great! Thanks Alen. The food.... we had a few excellent meals and a few horrible ones. Luckily you cannot go hungry. Cagneys was very good, relaxing, both had steak and lobster. Enjoyed it very much. Cirque, show was good, food average. Modernos salad bar was very nice. Sushi seemed odd but hey I love it and so I was happy. Meat came often but we never saw pork and had to ask for pineapple. This is not a meal I would repeat. Manhattan loved the meal we had here. Service was a little slow but we enjoyed the experience. Taste...lunch good, breakfast was insanely slow and I mean slow, dinner was awful. Dinner lacked in most areas, service, food quality, just very meh... Shanghai our food was very good but our waiter was very abrupt with us. He was the worst of the cruise and we were surprised. O’Sheehans I didn’t enjoy my meal, a rueben, but my hubby liked the wings. Breakfast buffet was very nice, loved the selections. Lunch buffet had great burgers and quiche. Casino was busy and not as smokey as others mentioned. Loved Maltings and Shakers. Spent some time in both bars everyday. We saw Burn the floor and Priscilla, enjoyed both. Caught a few minutes of Beatles, should have stayed but it was a mob scene. They were very good. Tried the Ice Bar, had a great time but it was the crowd we were in there with. Note... UBP only pays $11 each to get in. We only made it to one latenight deck party. It was very fun. Overall it was a good trip, we are tan, fatter, and having bloody mary withdrawal. akupupule Posted December 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Goofymom3 thanks for the update! We're sailing 9 Dec so was very interested in your review. This is our 2nd sailing on Epic with the last being in 2010, so we're sure there will be some differences. Thanks again!
Rare BirdTravels Posted December 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 5, 2017 The Epic did a long dry dock 2 years ago where they rebuilt all of he public areas from the deck plates up and replaced 2 engines. We were on the first repositioning cruise after dry dock when the paint was still drying (literally).

jrlamour Posted December 5, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Goofymom3 thanks for the update! We're sailing 9 Dec so was very interested in your review. This is our 2nd sailing on Epic with the last being in 2010, so we're sure there will be some differences. Thanks again! I also sailed on the Epic in 2010, it was a great ship, studio cabins were a new concept then. Would love to travel on Epic again. Hope you enjoy. The Epic did a long dry dock 2 years ago where they rebuilt all of he public areas from the deck plates up and replaced 2 engines. We were on the first repositioning cruise after dry dock when the paint was still drying (literally). While I enjoyed my cruise in 2010, there were several mechanical issues, etc during the sailing. A number of individuals in the studio cabins had flooding and were moved to balcony cabins (my carpet didn’t get wet, just the bathroom floor so I stayed put, no upgrade for me lol). We spent a sea day “running routine tests on the engines”. Sure. A few days later our departure from Cozumel was delayed by several hours as “the winds were too strong to push the ship from the dock”. Made me a little nervous. Despite all that, the crew made the best of it for us and I had no real complaints about the sailing itself. Just seemed like a lot of problems for an almost brand new ship. coffeenmorecoffee Posted December 5, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Tried the Ice Bar, had a great time but it was the crowd we were in there with. Note... UBP only pays $11 each to get in. Is this new? I hadn't heard the discount for UBP people mentioned before. I'm excited because I really want to try when we go! Although, we've got over a year left so who knows what will change in that time, heh
Vyhanek Posted December 5, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Lobster is back? Wow! Yah. Maybe NCL does listen.
Goofymom3 Posted December 5, 2017 Author #8 Share Posted December 5, 2017 We were shocked by the discount at the Ice Bar, but happy:). It is very small and 17degrees. We were with a couple guys from Pittsburgh and we are from Cleveland so we had the whole CLE vs PIT thing going only. The guys were taking off their shirts to prove how cold it is in their cities and how tough they are. So much fun. Casino ...I would have been bummed, but it didn’t seem bad to me. Steak at Cirque was decent.... Lobster at Cagneys for $10 up charge. It was worth it to us. We enjoyed it.
Bobrunner Posted December 5, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Thanks for the great comments. We are sailing Dec 9th. Casino is our place. Cagneys is on the list and I think the lobster will be requested. This will be our second sailing on the Epic.

Love my butler Posted December 7, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 7, 2017 There is a reason the Epic was a one off. I was a failed design experiment. Thank goodness NCL has learned some valuable lessons from the disaster that is the Epic.
dd likes to cruise Posted December 7, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 7, 2017 "Caught a few minutes of Beatles, should have stayed but it was a mob scene. They were very good." Loved the Beatles show, went every night we could. Have to get there at least 30 minutes in advance, if not more, to get a seat. But we also loved the band that played on the other nights - Siglio, on our sailing, April TA. "Tried the Ice Bar, had a great time but it was the crowd we were in there with. Note... UBP only pays $11 each to get in." That might be new, in April even with the UBP we had to pay the $20. We are doing the TA next November on Epic. Loved our first and only, so far, NCL cruise. The additional cost NCL took to stop another sister ship from being constructed was also costly, but a wise choice in the long run. Sent from my Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70F using Tapatalk Epic is my favorite ship I have sailed on. From a Haven customer's perspective, it is the best in the fleet. (My opinion, of course). I LOVE that ship. It is like Vegas on the water, and who doesn't love Vegas!?
KenCT Posted December 7, 2017 #19 Share Posted December 7, 2017 I was probably on the same cruise as well, and my experiences were not all that positive. I'll most my own comments soon.

I LOVE that ship. It is like Vegas on the water, and who doesn't love Vegas!? I 100% agree. We have sailed the Epic Haven twice, and recently booked the Haven on another ship, and are so worried we will be disappointed. We cannot imagine anything being better than the experience we had there!
Love my butler Posted December 8, 2017 #22 Share Posted December 8, 2017 Epic is my favorite ship I have sailed on. From a Haven customer's perspective, it is the best in the fleet. (My opinion, of course). I LOVE that ship. It is like Vegas on the water, and who doesn't love Vegas!? I happen to live in Vegas and have been on dozens of NCL cruises so I guess I am a bit jaded. I have also done the Epic haven. It's the only way I would ever sail her again. The haven makes the Epic just tolerable. The other 95% of the passengers are really getting short changed. No feel of being at sea. Might as well just come to Vegas.
gmbhardy Posted December 8, 2017 #23 Share Posted December 8, 2017 We just got off the Epic too. Don't understand all the negativity. There are plenty of areas to sit with ocean views. Pool deck, sun decks and the buffet (you don't have to eat) are a few examples. The staff are outstanding, the food good and the bathroom issue is not an issue at all. We have another cruise booked in February on the Epic and we are looking forward to it as much as all our other cruises on NCL.
