mz-s Posted December 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2017 I'd love to see any photos you have of the Festivale, Carnivale, Tropicale, Mardi Gras, Holiday, Jubilee, and Celebration. I never sailed on these ships but have heard they were very nice for their day. I've noticed that many of you sailed on these ships back then, and would love to see what they looked like! EBFURR Posted December 14, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Ditto. Would love to see any photos of the classic ships.
AD5ZA Posted December 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Love the ships from the early years of Carnival. On those ships you knew you were on ship and not a floating hotel. It was a completely different experience than what you have today. I loved the way it was. Sent from my iPad using Forums

I found this USA Today slideshow as well, showing the beautiful interiors of the Mardi Gras: https://www.usatoday.com/picture-gallery/travel/cruises/2014/09/15/cruise-ship-tour-the-early-icons-of-the-carnival-fleet/13892623/

WPTNGirl Posted December 15, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 15, 2017 Loved to see the pics of the Mardi Gras. We sailed on her twice in 1992 and 93 as our first 2 cruises. The restored wood everywhere around the ship was beautiful and we loved the ship. It made me go back and look at my pictures again and hunt out the video. Our cabin did not look like the ones they pictured. Ours were inside cabins and very small but we thought all cabins were that small with the shower over the commode!! We also sailed on the Holiday and still remember it as one of our favorites.
pghsteelerfan Posted December 15, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 15, 2017 Festivale (June 1992) Docked in St. Thomas (June 15, 1992) Docked in Barbados (June 18, 1992) MDR Our cabin (porthole) Lido Deck/Pool area and the funnel (June 20, 1992 - our sea day) View from Lido Deck towards the deck above it from the pool area Wish I had more, but I didn't get many ship pictures and only a few interior pictures on that cruise since I only had the film camera then. I also have a few copies of the "Carnival Capers" (now called "Fun Times") from that cruise as well.

Rare dctravel Posted December 17, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 17, 2017 One more of the hotel that Carnival owned in Nassau. I don’t remember much about it besides a calm beach and being stung by a jelly fish on our excursion [emoji12]. philbob84 Posted December 17, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 17, 2017 I would love to see menus from these days! CCL should really pay homage to its first ships after the next batch of ships are finished.

sc4125 Posted December 18, 2017 #19 Share Posted December 18, 2017 This thread brings back great memories for me - feels like yesterday that I worked on the Carnivale, Mardi Gras, and the Festivale in the early 1980's as a gift shop girl and then a gift shop manager. I loved every minute of it (well almost every minute).

Sent from my iPhone using Forums I just made the connection here - Crystal Palace is also the name of the Ecstasy's casino. I wonder how long Carnival owned the resort in Nassau? I bet it was heavily promoted onboard.

cruisin from vegas Posted February 12, 2018 #23 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Oh..such memories....I hope someone finds pics of the Tropicale.... I was a crew member when she was brand new, Carnivals first new build. She was considered huge back in the day, 1982-1984 I was a casino dealer. Time of my life... a lot of my friends left the ships to go to the land casino in Paradise Island.
