Travelcat2 Posted December 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Don't shake hands. We just returned from a 25 night cruise on a ship that had 4 out breaks of flu (nor norovirus but the ship still went into "Code Red") since September. Our cruise was illness free. Why? One reason could be that the Captain implemented a no hand shaking policy. She explained that many germs/bacteria live in the palm of your hands. So, instead of shaking hands, we did fist bumping, elbow bumping, etc. It actually became fun after a while. Of course, this is in addition to washing hands and using the antibiotic gel that is available on the ship.
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2017 We have been on quite a few HAL ships that either were in Code Red when we got on the ship or went into Code Red while we were cruising. Not fun to be in Code Red for days at a time. So far we have never gotten the virus.
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 31, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 31, 2017 Good information. Remember those door knobs are very bad for germs. Unfortunately you cannot 100% prevent noru virus but you can take steps to minimize the odds of getting it. Keith
