Epicureangirl Posted January 8, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2018 I guess the marketing term "America's thriftliners" never really caught on across the fleet... ;) That is quite the article -- thanks, for sharing it!
chengkp75 Posted January 8, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2018 And that $220 for a transatlantic equates to $1750 today.

debcruising Posted January 8, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2018 (edited) Thanks for sharing this piece of HAL History! The ad states that "Jet economy class to London cost $210 one way." Just knowing it is $1750 today is a handy grain of salt when reminiscing! Edited January 8, 2018 by debcruising
Rare *Miss G* Posted January 8, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 8, 2018 I, for one, think we should bring back the use of the word "corpus". And bouillon! When did they stop serving bouillon?! :loudcry:
Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 8, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Very interesting. I imagine that was about when airlines started to become a reasonable and dependable way to travel to Europe versus going by ship. Their arguments are good ones -- and I still hear folks use similar ones today for doing a Trans-Atlantic. Unfortunately, modern corporate America is not generous in their policies on paid vacation! Epicureangirl Posted January 10, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 10, 2018 I, for one, think we should bring back the use of the word "corpus". And bouillon! When did they stop serving bouillon?! :loudcry: They serve consommé on Crystal — that’s pretty much a ‘cousin’ to bouillon!
