But second hand smoke does have a measurable negative impact on non smokers. It does deprive non smokers of the usage of these spaces. Not being permitted to smoke there does not deny smokers the use of the space, only the privilege of smoking in the space. As to enjoying a legal product, it may be legal for now but it is regulated. It is on it's way to becoming illegal in many places. I'm sure you know this and further refusal to accept it on your part is simply trolling.

My posts have been about creating an indoor smoking lounge near the casino so smokers can enjoy their product without impacting non-smokers. As a non-smoker who grew up in a smoking family, I'm well aware of the health impact. There are many studies out there. I think this is a great idea, even if it had some slot machines too, but could also greatly reduce smoke in other adjacent venues.

I see this all over the place in Asia. Literally: smoking rooms. Want to smoke waiting for a flight connection in Narita? Off to the smoker's room with you. It's isolated from the rest of the terminal.

You are not comparing apples at all with that statement! And it's a double-edged sword - if my clothes didn't reek of cigarette smoke, I wouldn't have to put them outside at all! Just so we are clear, you are not supposed to leave laundry unattended on a balcony. Since I simply said, "at least they are following the rules," then yes I am comparing apples to apples. It's not to be rude, but there is an option, and that is not to go into the casino if smokers are there. During peak times, on most ships (not Oasis class for me) I cannot hang out there. Every since I quit smoking, I have been a little too sensitive to a lot of it in my face. So I wait until later in the night, or on the Oasis class I am okay on the non smoking side, even during peak times. Just like me, it your choice to go in or not. katrina915 Posted March 13, 2019 #334 Share Posted March 13, 2019 I am a non-smoker with asthma. I believe people should be able to smoke when cruising. When I have to avoid the venues next door and up the atrium, isn't this a bit much? I haven't been on a Royal Carribean ship for a couple of years and I am regretting that I booked the Radiance for this summer. Princess and Celebrity sails with full ships and eliminated or decreased smoking inside so why can't Royal? I am not even suggesting to get rid of smoking in inside venues. I am saying why can't it be contained so I can go in a cinema or the show? Again, why can't the smoke be more contained on these ships? So I don't have to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get around it and that was before there was a big issue of the smoke getting in the Atrium. I would think the smokers would want to give Royal constructive criticism on containing the inside smoke since I would think this would be in their best interest.
JoMoe Posted March 28, 2019 #335 Share Posted March 28, 2019 I am sure it is because Royal Caribbean doesn't want to lose any casino revenue. When they have a large indoor smoking area on their ships (the casino) lots of smokers go there just to smoke, so maybe they will also gamble. They don't want someone who is spending lots of money gambling to get up and leave to have a smoke. But RC fails to appreciate that some people like me would take more cruises with them, would not be looking at other lines like Princess and Holland (that have better smoking policies), and be looking at other venues. I am currently trying to decide if I want to out up with the smoke and take another RC cruise, go on a Princess or Holland, or maybe a vacation at a resort. mattpro Posted March 28, 2019 #336 Share Posted March 28, 2019 Well for all you RCL lovers who don't like smoke - hang in there. The word is smoking will not be allowed in the casino in 2020. In 2021 the only place you'll be able to smoke on Voyager & Freedom class ships will be on deck 12 on a small portion of the deck on the port side. Those of us that smoke are literally a dying breed and RCL is heading for a totally non-smoking ship in the next few years.

We're trying Celebrity this March solely because the casino (and most of the ship) is smoke free. Someone recently on FOS told me he'd been told RC is considering going smoke free in its casinos. Has anyone else heard this? That is one of the reasons we prefer Celebrity! No smoking inside anywhere. ( plus their service has been fabulous). We will be returning to RCL in June sailing on AOS. I would LOVE if the casino was smoke free! I know losing customers is a concern - but Celebrity is still thriving with non smoking casino.

newsanchor Posted March 28, 2019 #339 Share Posted March 28, 2019 I wouldn't get too excited. If you scroll back about a year, you'll see the rumor that Royal was going smoke-free for 2019. Whoops. Perhaps more wishful thinking than anything else.

It's great see more and more places restricting smoking.😊 I believe in the U.S. there are no federal laws pertaining to cigarette smoking and it's left up to individual states to set them? If there were federal laws do you think RCI would have to change their policy for US based sailings like they do in UK and Australia? Here in Canada the federal government imposed laws to ban all indoor smoking years ago and then provinces and municipalities can impose even stricter laws. Where I live there's no smoking within 30 feet of any doors or opening windows, on patios, bus stops, public parks and sports fields, or even vehicles with children in them. I'm just not used to cigarette smoke so the casino smoke on the ships really gets to me. We would have probably switched to Celebrity but they don't have FlowRiders for my hubby 😏

If smokers are bent on polluting their lungs and air- do it outside.
mattpro Posted March 29, 2019 #345 Share Posted March 29, 2019 Regarding no smoking in the casino. And we all know Disney would never do anything to harm their money making abilities. lol I have sensitive lungs due to growing up with second hand smoke but now, because it's been so long since I've been around it (I live in NY and no family/friends around who smoke) it gets me instantly sick. I wish it didn't, truly. And because I saw the struggle with my dad I really am sympathetic to smokers, especially ones who want to quit but just can't. I think a good compromise would be a closed off smoking room that had good ventilation. I wonder about smoking places like a section on an outside deck.....wouldn't that be a problem for the balcony rooms? I had a balcony hotel room at Disney once, sat outside and was enjoying the fireworks, balcony below me started smoking. Had to go back inside. And that was a concierge level room. Not a cheap hotel room. lol Cruising on Adventure in the fall. I'll be interested to see how the smoke is in the schooner bar (one of our fav places on Oasis. I think we were there every night) which is right next to the casino. 😕

The casino is located right next to the Schooner Bar on Deck 4. Deck 3 does not go through forward to aft so to avoid walking through the casino we had to go to deck 5, walk through and go down. There are six or so tables in the Schooner Bar that are right at the edge of the casino and if you don't like the smell of smoke you cannot sit there.
