Welcome to Cruise Critic and the Cunard forum. I'll take a stab at answering your questions as best I can. First of all, it looks like you found your other post in the "Queen Mary 2" section of the "ROLL CALLS" board. Here in the general "Cunard" board is indeed a better place for this post.

1. I'd suggest checking the following link to the Cunard UK FAQ for the question "What assistance is offered to guests with a disability or reduced mobility?"

https://ask.cunard.com/help/cunard/before-you-sail/Emergency_Assistance_Disabled

This has some good information concerning passengers with disabilities which you may find useful. Quoting a portion of the answer specifically addressing your first question:

Sailing from Southampton

Embarkation assistance is available to any guests on request once they arrive inside the Cruise Terminal Building. There will be a mobility assistance team wearing high visibility jackets who will escort you through embarkation either in your own mobility aid or a ships wheelchair. ...

2. A later arrival for embarkation is more likely to result in shorter queues for check-in than an earlier arrival. I'd say arriving for check-in around 2:30 - 3:00 pm ought to work pretty well in that regard.

3. I agree staying in a hotel the evening before departure is a good idea. It will almost certainly help reduce the stress level on embarkation day.

4. Hopefully this comment won't come across as being too glib, but I suppose whether your car will start after four weeks in the hotel parking lot will depend on a combination of a) the condition of your car, b) the weather, and c) the level of security at the hotel where you will be leaving your car.

5. I believe QM2 typically docks at the Ocean Terminal, or when another ship is assigned to the Ocean Terminal, she moves to the Queen Elizabeth II terminal instead. For November 18, 2018 when you embark in Southampton, I see no other ships scheduled to be in port that day, so my best guess is that QM2 will be at the Ocean Terminal for your embarkation.

Here's wishing you all the best for your first Cunard voyages and a wonderful time in New York and wherever else your plans may take you during your time in the US.

Regards, John

John has done a splendid job answering your questions much better than I could. We are also on the November 18th crossing, and will probably be staying in Southampton the night before we sail.

We look forward to meeting you and your family on board! I'm counting down the days until I am back on QM2 again!

Alf,

Welcome to the Cunard forum.

Although I have been on many cruises I have never been on Cunard. I find the people on this board so full of knowledge and they go out of their way to help you. You can ask questions that aren’t cruise related, and they do their best to give you options.

One suggestion, write down some questions and answers on a piece of paper. They are easier to find, but then I am older.

All the best,

Pat.

Regarding your car. We are staying overnight in Southampton and driving to the port. The car collection service we've taken includes various checks including the battery, made before the car is brought back to meet us on our return.

We have a long drive home and although my car is fairly new, a dead battery isn't the welcome home I'd be looking for.[emoji594]

Have you booked a Adapted Cabin as normal cabins do not allow access as the doors are to narrow for chairs that do not fold down and their are steps into the bathroom. Queens Grill cabins doors are wide enough & you can turn a chair in Q.G rooms which you can not do in a normal cabin. Disabled passengers & accompanying Adults have priority boording

Just to add my experience with mobility assistance. We were on Qe over holidays & I needed assistance at the port. There will be a section inside the building with a mobility sign. If possible you can call & get your name on the list. We didn't so my husband just went over to the guy in charge. There were quite a few people sitting n the area. But we got a porter quickly. He was a retired detective who took us through security & all the way to our room. Everyone was extremely professional & lovely. My husband had an envelope for our porter. Not sure if their allowed TOS. He seemed a little nervous but eventually too the envelope. I would have never made the lies or walking. Like they stated above accessible rooms are needed if your completely wheelchair bound. The won't make it into a regular room. Wishing you a wonderful vacation.

Both your arrival in New York on QM2 on Nov. 25th and your departure on Dec. 8th will be at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

I am from the US so I'm not certain about the ESTA procedures, but I have seen posts here in the past from others indicating they were asked to show their ESTA paperwork during the check-in process in Southampton. I'm sure someone from the UK can confirm what the current procedures are.

I am going to assume that you are sailing over to New York then on to the Caribbean before returning to the UK. I was on this cruise last November and have booked for this November again but only from and returning to New York. This is such a wonderful cruise that is why I booked it again this year. The ship is beautiful, great food and great crew members. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
