Can I pack hiking poles in my luggage for use in ports?

I'm talking about collapsible or folding treking poles with a metal tip, though the tips can be covered with a rubber tip.

Wondering if they would be allowed on board, not to use on board, but to use in the ports.

I have seen numerous people in the past using it on cruises, so can't see why there should be any problem? Even if the metal tip is sharp - so are the metal tips on other walking sticks or crutches as well (eg. those used if difficulty walking for any reason). Enjoy your cruise and your walks ! :)

I brought a pair on our Alaska cruise last summer as we planned on doing some hiking during the land based portion of the trip. I packed them in my checked luggage and there were no issues at all. No one said a word about them.

TSA airline NOT APPROVED !

For NCL as long as it is not a weapon of mass destruction should be OK.

Monopods (camera sticks with one leg) are permitted why not something

to stabilize the selfie camera picture taker.

I've taken my pair of walking sticks to Europe and to PC cruise and had no worries at all on airlines or cruiseline (NCL). PC cruise was Oct. 2017. I know things change but for now, they seem a safe item to carry on.

According to the TSA site, hiking poles are allowed in checked baggage.

Cruise security not as rigid and intense as the TSA airline.

You would be correct in CHECKED BAGGAGE - as for carry-on baggage not all TSA check-points are in

sync on this - MSP not allowed but they do allow mono-pod camera selfie sticks ?

Some agents think that the pieces and parts of the hiking poles can be used as martial arts nunchunk sticks

and assembled resemble ski poles - such mentality ?

Folks who use canes are given the nth degree looking for hidden swords etc.
