Ocean Medallions: Is Princess Ending the Program before it began.

Just to put a positive spin on the *****, there are important parts of it that are functional on the Regal Princess. The Medallion-Net works really well on the Regal and it provides excellent high speed (compared to previous cruise systems) internet for a reasonable price (free to Platinum and Elites). Many of the other ***** related functions may or may not have much use to many cruisers. Personally we could care less about being able to make donations to the casinio via our phone. And as difficult as it may be, we have always been able to open our cabin door with a card :). We hope that Princess quickly upgrades all their vessels to the Medallion-Net system but do not see the big deal about most of the other ***** related functions beyond their value to Princess in terms of direct specific marketing to cruisers.

On today's CCL Corp conference call with stock analysts, the following was said about the ***** technology:

"We achieved a major milestone this quarter in our measured ramp-up of our Ocean platform, having our first full ship, Caribbean Princess, with all guests onboard experiencing Ocean Medallion class cruising. Guest satisfaction scores onboard Caribbean Princess for the period are up substantially and are among the highest in the fleet. We continue to make refinements and add more features while pacing ourselves toward expanding deployment across the Princess fleet."

I don't care about ***** but if the technology improves

the internet speed and bandwidth onboard, I'd be a happy camper.

Ocean Medallion and MedallionNet are two different technologies.

***** uses RFID chips in the Medallions to track where they are on the ship.

MN uses improved downlink dishes to use the same satellites as RCCL's Voom.

The MN technology is already installed on many non-***** ships as "PrincessCONNECT".

Now that they have the experience and pain in implementing ***** on the CB as well as trained technicians further implementations on other ships should go quicker and on a more reasonable schedule. Just don't let marketing try to amend the schedule and mess it up.

Actually, I'd not blame Marketing -- for this one.

I've said before, the purpose of ***** is for ship operations. (specifically CLL's 120+ MOBs since 2000)

Marketing was just following marching orders "Get the pax to wear the Medallion"
