Best way to get help from Maitre D?

We had issues with our dining room on last cruise on Allure. It was near smoky casino, I can't tolerate smoke. Not an allergy but my Dad was heavy smoker, died from it.

The Maitre D changed us in 15 minutes, no bribe.

Just talk to MD, they will accommodate, give you options if the can at alll

When your "reasonable request" is declined at least you'll know why.

People like you help keep the prices low. Thanks.

If it ever does become a matter of "when", it would be thanks to cheesy operators who like to play big man.

So far, I have found that my "reasonable requests" put courteously have always worked. I have made it a point to recognize good service received with a tip at the end - rather than try to buy it with a bribe in advance.

Of course, if your recommended practice of bribing becomes necessary, I will know why.

In the meantime the little men who are too self-righteous to do what is necessary to get what they want can get in line behind me. Their requests will be dealt with after mine if at all.

Well: aren't you big, powerful and special. (And tiresome.)

What K32682 seems to miss is the fallacy of his own statement of doing "what is necessary." Sad when some folks NEED to resort to attempted bribery since they lack the social and/or interpersonal skills sufficient to acquire accommodation merely by asking nicely.

Remembering that this TS asked about a mass mkt cruise, I had to step back a moment when I read about a bribe. You try that on a premium or luxury line, and you will be rebuffed. The maitre’d not only will not accept, they will be let go if they did.

Pls do not encourage this type of bribing as it only makes people believe this is a std of life, which it is not. In all of our many many land travels, cruises, vacations, etc., we have never bribed anyone for anything, and have received numerous upgrades, freebies, and benefits by asking nicely. Asking respectfully and politely will allow them to keep their dignity and provide you with the service you deserve. ..You don’t need to bribe for a service willingly given, that’s just a waste. At the end of your cruise, if you feel they have done above and beyond, is the time for a thank you gratuity, if you are so inclined. Unfortunately you will come across bullies, and those braggarts who tell you that this is how they get things done, however, most of us feel sorry for that way of life, and never give them another thought.

Only use CDN in Canada otherwise use USD. If the $20 doesn't get the job done it's because someone else paid $50. Act accordingly.

As shown : if your bribe isn’t enough just raise the ante - I suppose any interaction can be turned into a bidding war if the players are self-important enough to demand rather than ask.

OP, get your reservations all linked. Once that is done, contact the cruise line, or your TA to request the seating arrangements you want.

I realize this was suggested before, but it might have been lost in the bribe/tip bickering. ;)

I think you have been given good advice.

Can you let us know what the final result is after you are back.

I hope it works out well.

He has been given conflicting advice. He can follow the stern lectures of the self-righteous who keep a firm clutch on both purse and pearls or he can avail himself of the potential benefits of providing a financial incentive if he believes it might improve his chances of getting what he wants.
