ithaca gal Posted March 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2018 I just saw a question on another thread that asked "What do you do with the tiles?" We are getting quite a nice collection of them but they are just sitting in a cabinet for now. Has anyone done anything creative and/or useful with them? haladdict Posted March 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We got so many, that I would donate them to the thrift store. I saw others there, so perhaps many of us are inundated. Sandra
ellieanne Posted March 19, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2018 I use mine as coasters on my dining room table. My parents used theirs in their guest bath remodel. They are part of the back wall of the tiled shower enclosure. In fact, my mother picked the colors of that bathroom based on the tiles.

ger_77 Posted March 19, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2018 I purchased a couple of wooden trays and glued the tiles to the bottom. Now when I serve coffee to guests, I use my HAL tray. I’ve got enough tiles left to do a few more trays, so will have to get busy! Smooth Sailing! Krazy Kruizers Posted March 19, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Ours are stored in a closet -- tons of them. Originally I was going to use them as a back splash in the kitchen. Never got around to that project.
Stratheden Posted March 19, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We don't collect them. Not something I want. Just more junk to sit in a cupboard.
Aquahound Posted March 19, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We don't collect them. Not something I want. Just more junk to sit in a cupboard. Agreed. I only had 1 because it was the first one given to me and I had no idea what was in the box. "Had" because I threw it away. Since then, I've refused them. navybankerteacher Posted March 19, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We had a low table on our deck just the right size for the HAL, plus other same sized tiles to cement them on-with grout in the cracks, making an interesting patchwork cocktail table. innlady1 Posted March 19, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Mine were tossed in various drawers and cupboards...when we moved 3 years ago, I gave them to Savers. I have 2 from our Bermuda cruise in ‘15. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

[emoji3] [emoji3] [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Forums We've made a large serving tray in the same fashion as you have used. We've a good number of tiles for the next one. My in-laws throw them out or simply leave them on board.

ithaca gal Posted March 19, 2018 Author #16 Share Posted March 19, 2018 I thought they were coasters They are coasters but you can only use so many coasters. The tray seems to be the easiest way to re-purpose them into something useful.
RuthC Posted March 19, 2018 #17 Share Posted March 19, 2018 My in-laws throw them out or simply leave them on board. If a passenger doesn't want them, it's better not to take them in the first place than it is to add to the landfills by throwing them away (or leaving them for someone else to throw away). We redid our bathrrom a while ago and I chose some of my HAL tiles I like best and had them inserted into the pattern of tiles on my shower walls. I love them there and each time I shower , I have pleasure from them.

sail7seas Posted March 19, 2018 #20 Share Posted March 19, 2018 I really like this idea! I'm glad. I wasn't sure when I first thought to do it but I am very happy I did. I layed them out on a table so my contractor could see the order in which I wanted them placed.
jhannah Posted March 19, 2018 #21 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We use them as coasters, too. One is a spoon rest on the stove. Others are in a Longaberger basket as treasured souvenirs of our HAL cruises. The newer, art deco tiles we have given away. Much prefer the "old" Delft tile look of the individual ships. We also have one issued for the Rotterdam's inaugural Canada/New England season.
OlsSalt Posted March 19, 2018 #22 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Turned them into table tops for our nightstands - glued them to a stiff backing. Wake up to seeing them every night and before going to bed. A bit of lovely blue and white whimsy.
