Docker123 Posted August 18, 2018 #328 Share Posted August 18, 2018 Big last quarter for Sydney to pull away to a 20 point win. Makes finals certain.
Rare MicCanberra Posted August 18, 2018 #329 Share Posted August 18, 2018 Good result in the end, winning 80 (11.14) to 60 (8.12), a big last quarter kicking 41 (6.5) to the giants 9 (1.3). They are now in 5th place.
Docker123 Posted August 19, 2018 #330 Share Posted August 19, 2018 At the end of round 22, Sydney sit in 5th position. Equal on points with 3rd (Collingwood) and 4th (Hawthorn), but with a significantly lower percentage. Two games into the 8 with one game to play. Next week, Sydney plays Hawthorn. This will determine which finishes in the top 4 and has a double elimination chance. If Sydney wins they would probably play Richmond (1st) in the first week of the finals at the G. Should Sydney lose next week, they could drop as low as 7th. Their opponent in the first week, single elimination, would the depende on the result of the GWS v Melbourne game. West Coast should finish second, and should play Collingwood or Hawthorn in Perth, depending upon next week’s results. Another exciting week of footy coming up. Their opponent in the first week, single elimination, would the depende on the result of the GWS v Melbourne game. Nope, if Sydney lose it'll be 6th. there is no way for both GWS and Melbourne to pass Sydney as they play each other. There is a miniscule chance that Sydney can finish as high as 2nd. It involves Fremantle beating Collingwood by any margin, sydney beating hawthorn and Brisbane beating West coast, those last two having to be by a combined aggregate of around 160 points. Mathematically possible. Realistically never going to happen. The two most realistic scenarios are: Sydney win, finish 4th and face off against Richmond in the first week of finals. Sydney lose, finish 6th. Winner of GWS v Melbourne will finish 5th and Sydney will play the loser in the first week of finals. It's been a while since we've had a final round with so many matches determining finals combinations. Should be fun!
Rare MicCanberra Posted August 24, 2018 #333 Share Posted August 24, 2018 Swans take on Hawthorn tomorrow at 7.25pm. Top 4 spot (with a 2nd chance to stay in the finals) on the line.
possum52 Posted August 24, 2018 #334 Share Posted August 24, 2018 With the Bombers winning last night, Port's slim chance of making the final 8 has gone. Depending on the results of games today and tomorrow, positions in the 8 can change. An exciting few games coming up. I'll be at the 'G' tomorrow to watch the Dees v Giants game. For family's sake I'll be supporting the Dees. Leigh

Rare MicCanberra Posted August 25, 2018 #341 Share Posted August 25, 2018 Swans lose by 9 at full time, 83 (12.11) - 74 (10.14). They miss the double chance but at least they are in the finals, they are currently 5th but will finish 6th and most likely take on Geelong but it may well be the GWS. Rare MicCanberra Posted August 26, 2018 #342 Share Posted August 26, 2018 (edited) Looking like a finish at 6th spot and a first final at home against GWS. GWS is currently 43 points behind after the 3rd quarter. Edited August 26, 2018 by MicCanberra
Rare MicCanberra Posted August 26, 2018 #343 Share Posted August 26, 2018 GWS lost by 45 points in the end so Melbourne jump above the Swans and now will face the GWS at the ANZ stadium.

losfp Posted August 26, 2018 #349 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Richmond v Hawthorn, MCGWest Coast v Collingwood, Optus Stadium Perth Melbourne v Geelong, MCG Sydney v GWS, SCG I think at this stage, Richmond is the clear favourite. Good form, playing on their home ground for the next month, no injuries to speak of. I have question marks over the rest of the field, so the flag is really Richmond's to lose. The most likely challenger is West Coast, but they're going to be missing key personnel, and will have to leave Perth to win it. Of the rest, I think Hawthorn, Sydney and maybe Melbourne can provide nuisance value and possibly an upset or two. Collingwood, Geelong and GWS I think have too many form and injury concerns to go very far. Of course, on any given day, any team can beat any other team. Let's see how it finishes up. NoWhiners Posted August 29, 2018 Author #350 Share Posted August 29, 2018 Just checked the standings and saw where the Swans finished, at least they made the playoffs. I agree that Richmond has to be the favorite but maybe the Swans can give us some upsets along the way! Go Swans ML
