Moving a cruise between TAs

on our recent cruise we booked a future cruise and were assured that when we got home we could hand it over to our chosen TA. It hasn't worked out like that.

The cruise we were on was booked over 12mths ago with a large travel company as our regular TA was taking time out. We already have a new cruise booked for 2019 with our good agent but she is unable to pick up the onboard booking. Celebrity have given it to the big travel company and it's apparently our fault and we have to fix it. If we can. Has anyone else had this problem and did you have to pay to change agents or forfeit the onboard booking advantages?

If I recall correctly the on-board booking offer specifies thst the reservation will automatically be assigned to the TA on record for the cruise you are on when you book. To stop that from happening you would have had to sign a document that kept the reservation with Celebrity.

The reservation can be moved if the large travel company agrees to give it to another agency (unlikely) or if the large travel company is derelict in handling the reservation.

Correct. You must specify at the time of booking onboard whether the reservation will go to your travel agent of record or will remain with Celebrity.

Yes, you have to tell them at the time of the on board booking that you don't want the reservation to go to your TA of record, or it will. Some on board agents will tell you that, and some won't. You really have to have a very good reason to pull the booking from one TA to another.

Not only do you need to tell the agent in Future Cruises that you don't want the reservation assigned to the agent who booked the current cruise, you also need to sign a form. You do nothing if you want the reservation to go to your TA for current cruise, or you can specify a new Agent. There is one additional choice: Keep the reservation with Celebrity and if you wish you can assign it to a Agent of your choice 60 days from the date of your booking. You can also keep it with Celebrity by doing nothing. I've booked many, many cruises on board and each time the options were explained to me as if I was a first time cruiser.

One option is to cancel the cruise and then rebook it with your favored agent/agency. Of course you would have to check on availability (before you cancel) and do a cost comparison.

There may also be a cancellation fee charged by the current TA as well as lost benefits. Really good advice that the OP needs to check before any change in reservation.
