Hurricane chances/cruise effects

Recommended Posts

I kind of liked last year's hurricane cruise season. Our 7 days Oasis sailing turned into a 4 day one and all we paid were taxes and port fees. Got 50% back as refundable OBC and 50% in a future cruise certificate.

We are driving distance to PC

AND the ship only had around 2500 passengers out of a possible 6000 It was VERY nice

We did NOT like last year's hurricane season!

I did not like 5 days holed up in my house wondering if we were going to lose our roof or have water come in the front door!

We never let the decision to cruise or not to cruise be based on Hurricane season. Stuff happens and its totally unpredictable. Last year we were on Oasis doing b2b's when Irma happened. Our 14 day cruise turned into a 17 day cruise because the ship couldn't get back to Port Canaveral party because of the path of Irma and then they had to clear the port for arrivals. Never were we in danger and the Captain handled things perfectly. Tips were covered for the extra three days. For us it was no big deal, although we felt guilty enjoying the safety and luxury of the ship while those in South Florida were suffering with the impact of the storm. We are booked on Allure in mid August for b2b2b and are not concerned about hurricanes.

Meg, we live in SW Florida and know all about the weather hyping.

Our local news channel used to have a guy who retired to New England, but was brought in whenever there was a threat. He always said, "find the place where they say the storm will hit 5 days from now. Go there. It'lll never hit that place."

Many of us here follow the storm reporting location of the Weather Channel's Jim Cantore. Popular thinking is he gets sent wherever it's expected to be the worst, so if he shows up in town we know to really hunker down, LOL. If he's north or south of us, we're good! ;)

We had a direct hit by a Cat. 4 hurricane in 2004.

The year after our town had a party to celebrate the progress we made in a year. We invited Jim and he came. Nice guy.

That's awesome that he accepted the invitation and came to the party!
