griffy116 Posted June 2, 2018 #26 Share Posted June 2, 2018 We did this itinerary on Celebrity the other year and our passports stayed with us. The only time I've had my passports taken and retained were on long cruises, 65 nights and 105 nights. Had to hand ours over on a Med cruise 2 years ago, on a 7-night cruise so it doesn't have anything to do with the length of your cruise. It's strictly to do with the countries you are visiting and their requirement at the time you enter their country. In order to expedite the entry, the cruise lines get them all cleared before entering them.
Rare rafinmd Posted June 2, 2018 #27 Share Posted June 2, 2018 Some cruise line will give you a receipt when they hold your passport. Does Royal do this? Roy
Homosassa Posted June 2, 2018 #28 Share Posted June 2, 2018 LOL - there was a thread on the MSC forum about a US couple who refused to surrender their passports on a Mediterranean cruise. MSC let them keep the passports, but after two ports where they were woken up at two and three AM to bring their passports down to guest services so that the ship could be cleared for that day's port, they let the ship keep the passports. Rare broberts Posted June 2, 2018 #29 Share Posted June 2, 2018 Canada and the US share passport data electronically. There seems little reason for cruise lines to hold US or Canadian passports on a NE coast itinerary.
