Rare fabnfortysomething Posted June 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2018 yes they are pretty little islands you can use vaparetto or a "tour" with Alilaguna from near St Marks timed departures which visit Murano Burano and a third island Torcello narrated guide on board and free time on each island cost about 20 euros Murano is known for glass making and you can visit factory Burano for lace making and multi coloured houses Torcello has a church being restored reached via a pretty canal side path
dogs4fun Posted June 7, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 7, 2018 Yes, my favorite is Burano - some of my best photos are of colorful Burano (and I am by no means a great photographer). We utilized the vaporetto.
Grandma Cruising Posted June 7, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 7, 2018 If you’re using the Vaporetto, it’s a good idea to buy a day ticket, rather than a single ticket, that way you can get on and off any Vaporetto for 24 hours from when you first use the ticket. The other thing about Murano, is that it’s the glass making island. You can often get a free trip there by a faster boat from one of the glass companies from the water-front of St Marks Square. They have touts along there trying to persuade people to go there. You have to go and see a glass blowing demonstration, which is interesting, then of course you have to walk through the shop to get out, but there’s no obligation to buy. You can have a wander around the island and catch the Vaporetto back to the main island of Venice. Sent from my iPad using Forums
brian1 Posted June 7, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted June 7, 2018 Hi,thanks everyone. We have been to Venice before, just M&B and Doges palace to catch up on.Probably just get 6 single tickets as that works out cheaper than the all day one. With that bucket list ticked off,we'll just walk back to the ship.Cheers,Brian. Rare Hlitner Posted June 7, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 7, 2018 DW and I also consider Burano one of our favorite places to get away from the hustle and bustle of Venice. Just keep in mind that it takes a long time to get out to Burano so plan accordingly. It is a nice island for having lunch. Hank
roothy123 Posted June 7, 2018 #8 Share Posted June 7, 2018 I'm another fan of Burano! So colorful. Just make sure you understand what tickets you're buying. Allilaguna yellow boats are different from ACTV white boats, and when we returned from Burano or Murano, there was someone giving tickets if you were riding with the wrong ticket. JodiBB Posted June 8, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 8, 2018 We just returned from Venice and spent time in Burano. It’s one of my favorite islands. We walked around and grabbed lunch on a canal pizzeria. It was wonderful. Sent from my iPad using Forums
