firemanbobswife Posted June 23, 2018 #176 Share Posted June 23, 2018 Yep, that's pretty close. The ones on the Glory had brown cushions. Don’t recall seeing brown cushions on Glory. Every time for me they were turquoise. Actually now that I looked at my pics from this last time one small section did have brown cushions. My friends are sitting on the couch in that one so I can’t post it.
Computer Nerd Posted June 23, 2018 #177 Share Posted June 23, 2018 Don’t recall seeing brown cushions on Glory. Every time for me they were turquoise. Well, to be fair, my wife says I'm going senile. ;p Maybe the cushions were turquoise and the wicker brown. Can't look at my pics to verify. Either way, I don't care if a non-smoker wants to sit there but you only get ONE seat, not 2 or three so you can stretch out.

Yeah they are brown in one spot. I remember now thinking they got new cushions as all of them before were turquoise like Serenity. Now I’m starting to doubt myself. They could have been dark blue at one point. I do remember them showing dirt but they weren’t always brown. Anyway the color doesn’t matter, really. And yes I agree - there are 2 cushions for 2 people. Edited June 23, 2018 by firemanbobswife
NavarreCruiser Posted June 23, 2018 #179 Share Posted June 23, 2018 You sit with people at dinner, why is the Libo buffet any different? And yes, you are required to allow people to use unused seats at THE table (not YOUR table) if they want to use those seats. Can't tell you how often I've offered open seats where I was sitting to folks looking for a place to sit. To not do so is just plain rude. You seem to think some people are more special than other folks. Surprise, they are not. I don't sit with strangers at lunch or dinner. After 100 plus cruises, I have sometimes seen people offer to share a table when seating is tight (nice gesture), but way more often I have seen people searching and no one inviting them to share THEIR (temporary) table And on RCCL on ships that have too small a Windjammer (the name of the buffet on all RCCL ships) crew will often help people find seating. And they almost never force diners to share a table.
LuckyZ Posted June 23, 2018 #180 Share Posted June 23, 2018 Just off the Magic and chair hogs were in full force. One lady every morning would put a pair of her sandals on a chair at 7:30am and there was no sighting of her until after noon. Serenity was awful with people putting stuff on seats and vacating. In Grand Turk, we had 2 loungers in the shade. When we came back from getting a drink from Margheritaville , someone moved our stuff to a chair in the sun and took over our shade seats. The nerve of some people. Very obnoxious Sent from my iPhone using Forums
winddawn Posted June 23, 2018 #181 Share Posted June 23, 2018 I think the point many are missing is that cruise ships are becoming more and more crowded due to the cruise lines emphasizing profits over passenger experience by allowing more and more passengers on a ship (think many more cabins and people sharing smaller and smaller public spaces). This is resulting in more passengers making comments on how to fill common spaces where that discussion wasn't needed in the past. Ships are being built or renovated to pack on more people while common spaces are becoming smaller resulting in the type of discussion in this thread. The fact that customers are having this discussion is a result of cruise lines maximizing profits to the exclusion of passenger comfort, satisfaction, and comfort. Let's discuss that instead. firemanbobswife Posted June 23, 2018 #182 Share Posted June 23, 2018 I don’t really know what there is to discuss. They aren’t going to change anything as far as reducing the number of passengers a ship can hold. The only thing I can say about the issue is that’s one thing that makes me and others dislike Vista so much. It is extremely crowded outside of the Havana area and there’s just nowhere to put all the people. Lines are long, the layout is poor, service is slow, etc. so the only thing I can do about it is not sail that type of ship. Other than that, I don’t see any other remedy. If it wasn't for Havana I would have not been a happy camper. I only wish the casino and pizza place backed up to it. If they did, I would have had no use for the rest of the ship. We didn't try the pizza place on the Vista, they couldn't keep up and people were waiting an hour for a slice. The Lido/Tides pool areas were so overcrowded they were ridiculous. It's a shame because the Vista was gorgeous.

So we pretty much stayed in Havana, the casino (which we didn't care for the layout at all), and had dinner in the MDR each night. Did a show one evening, caught the tail end of a comedy show once, and watched karaoke. It just wasn't for us. First cruise I've ever been on that I was actually ready to come home and it was a 6 nighter. I don't see myself going back.
code_d Posted June 24, 2018 #188 Share Posted June 24, 2018 If some one came to me while lounged out on a love seat to sit next to me just to smoke while there are clearly other seats to sit in I would say POUND SALT! First of all I am relaxing on an entire piece of furniture that fits ONE person lounged out. If another wants to sit in the same area and smoke like it is allowed to I do not care as they can. Bu t to say they have the right to kick you out or appreciate the fact they smoke is BS! This has NOTHING to do with smoking at ALL. missquito Posted June 24, 2018 #189 Share Posted June 24, 2018 Sunshine, March 2018, Serenity. As always packed pretty early, I get up there early. Traveled solo this time and like being at the end. I’m not a chair hogger but I do go up around 8am. I don’t want to waste a minute on my cruise and enjoy staying there all day. There was a man who came up around 11am foaming at the mouth looking for a spot for him and his wife. No loungers left, sorry buddy you got here to late. Period. I went to grab lunch and came back to tag on my towel, I was gone most 25 mins, and there Mr. Foaming at the mouth holding his towel watching the clock, sorry buddy. He must have been there over an hour until someone did not come back in time. I now will bring post it notes to put on towel, I’m in pool, come scream hey the person in row 2, seat 1 are you here? There are the chair hogs, there are ppl who like to spend the day at the pool and then there are the babies that slept in and cry because they can’t find a seat. I enjoyed the ship very much and looking forward to sailing the Horizon next February. It was worse than any of my other cruises. Forget about trying to get a drink out on Lido. And trying to debark at ports - Ha! Stair lice as I call them was HORRENDOUS! I hope you have fun on Horizon. I can’t justify the price for a ship that I didn’t really enjoy. And like I’ve said before - the only way I would sail Vista Class again would be in another Havana cabin. But the cost is just too much and I don’t really like the rest of the ship so it’s not something I’m even considering.

I don't drink so I don't look at the bars and service. I do smoke and the Vista was the first ship where I could smoke and sit in a comfy chair at the same time while watching the evening movie. A big plus for us!!! I didn't find the Havana useful so I saved my money and went with my trusty PT cabin. Really looking forward to see some of the additions that the Vista didn't have. I drank a lot of Diet Coke during the day and forget it if I was thirsty and we were walking around or eating at the buffet. There were SO many people at the bars on Lido and only like 2 bartenders. I don’t even think everyone that wanted a drink got one before we went on our cabin crawl and we waited a little bit for some late comers.

Moosevilleco Posted June 25, 2018 #198 Share Posted June 25, 2018 I was in Nassau in Feb. on the Pride and was having early morning coffee and reading a book on Deck 9. I met a woman and we started talking and I told her I was staying on the ship since I'd been to Nassau many times and just wanted to hang out and not do anything. She said she was doing an excursion and would be gone about 4 hours but was concerned that when she got back on the ship that all the chairs by the pool would be taken and she wanted the first row in front of the pool for her and the six others she was with. I told her not to worry and that the time she was coming back would be OK and there would be plenty of chairs. She insisted that it had to be the front row and then said, "If you're not getting off the ship, I'll give you $100 to watch MY chairs." She pulled out a $100 bill. I told her your'e not suppossed to save chairs and I wasn't planning on sitting there all day anyway. She started dropping F Bombs at me and told me I was pathetic....LOL Thankfully, never saw her again after that.:o:o:o:o Some people are scary....:D Wow! That’s crazy!! I can’t even process her thinking! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
pacruise804 Posted June 25, 2018 #199 Share Posted June 25, 2018 It’s definitely not a clamshell. I can’t find a pic of one from my cruises but it’s pretty darn close to this only with turquoise cushions. Thanks for the pic FBW - this is what I was picturing and didn't understand why it was so weird to share this type of seat. Personally, if I was wanting to lay out and lounge I would find a lounger. Even though I am short enough to curl up on a 2 seat couch and can sort of see the appeal of cushions vs. hard lounger, I wouldn't want my head where others had been sitting:o
Wyoming2010 Posted June 25, 2018 #200 Share Posted June 25, 2018 On the Disney Magic in 2005, going through the Panama Canal, we got up at 5 a.m. to watch the narrator and pilot board, and went to the upper deck to get pictures. I could not believe how all the rails were blocked around the whole deck by chairs and loungers that had been pulled right up to the rails for viewing, with various forms of items left to "hold" them. Some already had people sitting in them. Sadly, most of them were seniors and were fighting with anyone who dared to try to get in front of them to get pictures. A crew member came over and said this would not be allowed and all the chairs and loungers were pulled back and stacked and the rails remained clear and accessible for the rest of the day. Just speechless that anyone would think they have more rights to views and picture-taking than anyone else who paid for the cruise. They are all over on all cruises! My favorite thing has become watching people who follow the early bird chair savers who are putting fruit and papers on rows of chairs for later. Once they have left, these people proceed to remove everything. It's great viewing to watch them come back later to discover their chairs taken by others. Keep in mind, they don't even return sometimes until after lunch! So they expected those chairs to be saved for them from 6 a.m. -- for more than 6 hours! The nonsense thinking of people like that boggles the mind!
