Least expensive way to check email

We are sailing on Celebrity Reflection this week to Italy/Greek Isles. My husband runs his own company, but has agreed to check his email only once a day (in case of emergency). We obviously don't need unlimited access. What would be the most economic way to check email once daily on a 10 day sailing? Thanks!

You'll need to buy a WiFi package. An hour may be enough, if you:

 

1) log on, download emails, log off

2) read emails...without the "clock" ticking

3) compose replies...without the "clock" ticking

4) log on, send replies, log off

 

As long as we're just talking about text emails...no attachments or such...an hour will plenty of time.

 

And easy to test before you leave home, using your own WiFi -- the only difference will be the time spent signing on or off from the ship's WiFi network.

What packages do you see in your planner? You can only see the details of current offers in a reservation. According to Celebrity's home page, Reflection now has "Xcelerate Internet at Sea." allowing you to connect up to four devices to the same account, but no mention of pricing options.

 

X appears to be moving away from the timed packages (which was always a stupid model for selling data access!), so I don't know if you can buy an hour of internet access on Reflection, or if they're only selling daily and "length of cruise" packages. If daily is available, do the math on 5 days versus an unlimited 10-day package. You could purchase 24 hours at say 5 p.m., check and respond to e-mail, and repeat at 4 p.m. the next day. Skip a day and repeat. But that may well not be any less expensive than a 10-day unlimited multi-device package.

 

BTW, he should be able to write off the cost of the internet as a business expense if he's actually using it for work and is self-employed. Does he expect to influence more than $300 worth of business decisions during the cruise? If so, just buy the package and write it off. And if he's not self-employed, charge it to the business and let the business write it off. You never know when that e-mail will suddenly necessitate an extended time online...

I would give whoever he leaves "in charge" the number for the ship, the ship's name and your cabin number, in case of "emergency"....and not worry about e-mails so much! If it's a true emergency, he can be notified...and surely the person in charge will handle it.

 

We own a business, too...and that's what we do.

There’s no economical way on the ship. Find places in fe ports that offer free WiFi for the cost of a drink. That’s usually the cheapest option.

 

I can't find your itinerary, but likely you only have two days without port stops. Buy the daily package for those two days. On days with port stops, find an internet cafe/bar...McDonalds/Starbucks....and use their wifi.

 

You might want to check some internet sites like: https://wifispc.com/ which will give you the location of wifi hotspots in your ports....
