Why are Alaska Roll Calls sooooo Boring?

I’ve stopped viewing or joining roll calls. 95% of posts are either saying hello, getting added to lists for events we never attend, or coordinating DIY excursions we’d never join. Must be getting jaded.

I wonder if the crowd to Alaska is older and do not know about Cruise Critic.com or using a computer ?

how many older people do you know that do not have and use computers? I bet there are not more than a few. As for CC, I am guessing more 60 plus use CC than those under 40? I doubt that has anything to do with the roll call. Maybe I am wrong.

I doubt that the issue is the itinerary or the forum.

A small group of interesting people is way more fun than a large group of people who don't interact as much.

The world is becoming a place where friendship isn't based on interaction, but simply on clicking a LIKE button.

If the roll call is "boring" it is because of boring people. People need to stop sitting on the sidelines and just get out there and dance.

Veterans of CC roll calls either are great enthusiasts of them or have learned their lesson: Sailings of 7 days or less have smaller and less active roll calls and hardly anyone shows up for the events. Sailings that have many sea days and interesting ports of call attract a big following. But, even these get tiresome after a while. If you have been on that class of ship before, cabin crawls are not interesting. Someone is always happy to start the slot pull, because they used their casino card to collect points from the groups' play, etc.

I think the greatest benefit is planning private excursions in foreign ports (not Caribbean or Mexican,) I've met some very nice people on CC to hang with during the longer cruises, but don't bother on shorter cruises (7 days or less.)

Feel your pain. Although there are quite a few on my roll call no one actually posts. Once a month I post my monthly countdown but I guess that is just for me because no one else seems to want to interact. That is fine I am going with my family but it is fun to chat about your trip with others.
