gigem_aggies Posted June 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 28, 2018 I wondered the same thing. It sounded like the same story as last year.
KnightsFan Posted June 28, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 28, 2018 These are 'new' reports to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Basically a lot of folks 'blacking out' at resorts and not getting help from the police or resort staff. At the same time, black market tequila distilleries were shut down, and upon testing the tequila Mexican officials discovered high levels of methanol. tracymtx Posted June 29, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2018 Well, this is terrifying considering we have reservations for Nachi next week. Now I'm wondering if we should cancel? Our 23yo daughter will be with us, I certainly wouldn't want to put her (or us) in any danger. Trying not to over-react

Trying not to over-react Treat it the same you would anywhere else, don't trust a drink unless you see a bartender pour/open it. Keep in mind this is 130 complaints out of tens of thousands of annual visitors.
FloridaCrazy Posted July 2, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 2, 2018 Spoke with management at NC when we were there last year about these stories and they said they have used the same distributor for 18 years and had no issues. All the reports I had seen last year were chain resorts on mainland. Have not researched this new report to see if it has multiple credited sources or is "fake news". Cozumel is so very take compared with many parts of mainland Mexico. Don't know if you could even find trouble there if you tried. nascarcruiser Posted July 2, 2018 #9 Share Posted July 2, 2018 You can definitely find trouble on cozCozu if you look hard enough. The fact the island depends largely on cruise ships and tourism helps keep the trouble to a minimum
Peachy59 Posted August 6, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Here is a link to a story I came across the other day. If you scroll down, the one at Nachi happened in February. https://projects.jsonline.com/topics/mexico-blackouts-investigation/#stories-anchor
Rare crewsweeper Posted August 6, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Here is a link to a story I came across the other day. If you scroll down, the one at Nachi happened in February. https://projects.jsonline.com/topics/mexico-blackouts-investigation/#stories-anchor If you read the Nachi story, 1) they waited 2 weeks to complain. 2) when approached by employee they declined assistance. 3)no other complaints registered that day or later at Nachi. 4) 2 margaritas but how much time between? Not saying they didn't get sick or "pass out" for a brief time, but so many things could go wrong without it being tainted booze. blue_water Posted August 6, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Yes tainted alcohol has been blamed by many who overindulge, as well as resort guests who drink with strangers. Not to mention the media hype started by third parties who were not even present...
JohninDC Posted August 6, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 6, 2018 I take most of these reports with a big grain of salt on the rim of my margarita glass.
montiemsu Posted August 8, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 8, 2018 I was at Nachi in February with my family for the first time and have nothing but positive things to say. We only had a few drinks and had no problems at all. Unless more stories likes this pop up with a direct link to Nachi, I would definitely go again. blue_water Posted August 8, 2018 #15 Share Posted August 8, 2018 Yes that direct link - or evidence to support unfounded accusations - always seems very elusive. Some posters, many of whom have no experiences in Mexico, are also known to be eager to spread negative things on many boards (“trolls”) and you just learn who they are. It’s more common on TA and Mexico-specific forums, and then someone posts it on CC even though the info or accusation is vague or unfounded. It just makes a mess... jonsmom Posted August 16, 2018 #17 Share Posted August 16, 2018 I am considering a cruise with a stop in Cozumel. Last time we visited was may 2010 and it was a great experience. We took a van to the resort. Seemed kinda shady. Can you recommend the best way to get there and your experiences. Thanks.

We took a van to the resort. Seemed kinda shady. Can you recommend the best way to get there and your experiences. Thanks. Would you like to expand on “shady”? Are you talking about protection from the sun, the resort, or the transport? Are you looking for different form of transport or a different resort? jonsmom Posted August 16, 2018 #19 Share Posted August 16, 2018 The driver/van seemed like an old run down van. Driver was not social. I was looking for a different type of transportation to resort.
Rare crewsweeper Posted August 16, 2018 #20 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Taxi. And if you don't like the condition of the first taxi or the driver, go to the next one or tell the taxi captain to get you another taxi.

tracymtx Posted August 22, 2018 #22 Share Posted August 22, 2018 Thanks - do you recall the cost It was $17.00 each way for the four of us. We paid $20.00 (included tip) each way.
c-leg5 Posted August 22, 2018 #23 Share Posted August 22, 2018 Thanks - do you recall the cost Depends which pier you are at and number of people. Prices clearly marked on the board at taxi dispatch at each pier and you should check with driver before you leave.
katjoeus Posted September 3, 2018 #24 Share Posted September 3, 2018 So the prices for taxis are preset? That's a relief! Good to know. Does anyone know how much from Puerta Maya? To Nachi Cocom?
JohninDC Posted September 3, 2018 #25 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Taxis are fairly well regulated and organized on Cozumel (unlike the crooks in Philly ) and the far to Nachi will be posted on a board near the taxi line - along with the fares to most popular tourist spots will be listed. Fare to Nachi should be about $17 - same fare should get you back to your pier. It never hurts to confirm the fare with the driver BEFORE you get into the cab.
