Bar Cash and Cruise Cash.

I purchased $100 worth of cruise cash and $100 worth of bar cash.

Some one please explain to me what the difference is if anyone knows or has had experience with this.

Cruise Cash can be used for anything on the Ship. Bar Cash can only be used for Bar purchases.

Exactly this. They both have a limit of $500 and both are non-refundable (which is probably why the limit exists). Cruise Photo is only for Photo Department purchases.

Bar Cash

Cruise Cash Bar provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account which can be applied toward any bar purchases. This credit is good for any bar charge made to their account including alcoholic drinks, juice, soda, water, and coffee shop charges. Cruise Cash Bar is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash Bar is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited.

Not much difference. In both cases you are spending a dollar and getting that exact same dollar back at a later time. I call that an interest free loan to Carnival ;p

Who cares? I have more important things to worry about. I really don’t understand the problem people have with a company making money off of interest. Happens all the time with deposits, final payments, airline tickets, etc. And to say it can earn more on your own account, it’s hardly worth mentioning. Pennies, if that.

If the gift card people already have my money it makes no difference to me when I redeem them. I would rather buy some general Cruise Cash than have to keep track of gift cards or worry about issues popping up with them.

Basically you are right, Cruise Cash is a marketing program designed to make sure the customers spend money on the ship. On our recent cruise I did buy some with AAAP gift card that were bought with a discount. I know I could have just used the cards but the Cruise Cash meant that I did not have to do anything with them on the ship. (Although I did have a reserve gift card I ended up using on the ship.)

The only problem to me is if you do not use it up you forfeit it.

To me not worth doing it that way but understand others want to prepay some bills.

I used to be against it too until I started doing a cash account. It’s no different than using gift cards except that if you don’t use it all or cash out you don’t get it back. It’s easier for me to do Cruise Cash vs gift cards because I don’t need to take any additional steps at check in or on the ship. The funds are available immediately upon boarding.

Each to their own. I was only explaining that there is no gain from purchasing them. You are correct about the interest being negligible. I buy the gift cards from AARP and apply them prior to boarding the ship which takes about a minute or two-- the same amount of time it takes you to buy them on the website. I just wanted people out here who don't know about cruise cash to know you aren't really buying anything. And if for some reason I don't spend it all, I will get it back via another gift card. No running to do the " Casino trick " for me to get my hard earned money back. I have said before Carnival should have the option to allowing people to apply gift cards to their S & S account prior to boarding, just like we now enter CC info. Apparently that is still too 21st century for Carnival :D

If doing something makes my life a little simpler than that is all the gain that I need to justify doing something, so this too is something that lies in the eye of the beholder and there is no real right or wrong answer.

Except it takes me 2 min at home in my pajamas :D to buy Cruise Cash with my discounted gift cards vs more than that when I'm on vacation and I would rather not waste time in line either at check in, on the ship, or at a kiosk. I budget what I plan to spend and am in the casino anyway so it's no bother as I'll be cashing out either way. A future cruise on Carnival is never guaranteed with me so another gift card is not an option. I totally agree that they need to let you add a GC to your account ahead of time. I don't know why they don't. Maybe they figure that's why they have the Cruise Cash option? Not sure.

I agree with you 100%. Everyone do what works best for them! I am not knocking those that buy it if that's what they want.

I've been on a few cruises, but this is my first time using the AARP gift cards and Cruise Cash. I just bought $500 in cruise cash and selected both my name and my girlfriend's. I'm assuming they'll just automatically add $250 to each of our cards? Is there anything we need to do about it once we're on board? Thanks.

Print copies of your purchase confirmation or email with the confirmation #. Snafus are known to happen, and the cruise cash is not applied to your on board account. Sometimes this is because the computers go down during boarding, so it is best to check around dinner time if all your OBCs including cruise cash has been posted to the accounts via the HUB app or the interactive TV in your cabin. If not then go to the Guest Services desk with your purchase confirmations to rectify.

I wouldn't assume anything. If you are setting up two separate accounts I'd go to guest services early on to determine how it was divided. If you have the same account it will be applied to that account and either of you could use all of it.

Can someone tell me where to find the discounted gift cards? I can't find them anywhere.

Search for threads about AARP gift cards. You can go to their website and buy discounted carnival gift cards. Once n aarp site, look for Rewards For Good section. It will direct you to the place you can buy the cards. You do have to earn points by taking quizzes, etc. A thousand points gets you a $100 card for $90, and so on. A $500 card costs $450 with 5,000 points.

thank you, this is the understanding that I was looking for. I was not sure if it came to your state room or if it was applied to the sail and sign card.

Thank you all,

I just wasn't sure if the cruise cash and bar cash came to your room in a form of tickets or if it wasn't something that was applied to your sail and sign card.

It's actually kind of both, you should have a written confirmation of it in your cabin and it is automatically applied to your sail and sign.
